What exactly is fun?

If Big Brown does win the Belmont Stakes, there still might be more races in his future.

Dutrow suggested that he is eyeing two more races for Big Brown: the Travers Stakes on Aug. 23 at Saratoga and the Breeders Cup Classic at Santa Anita on Oct. 25.

"That's what I'd be most interested in," Dutrow told reporters. "I can't see anything else making sense for him this year. I don't want to go out and just keep running him in big races just to make money. That's no fun. He's going to need some time to get over these races after the Belmont."

He most likely gets a big check and a breeding right

.....run em enough and they all eventually get beat...that might not be as much fun for Dutrow

Between the IRS, the Shy's and his dealers. The 100k he will get for a booking to Big Brown will get him a Ham sandwich.

does anyone really think, if he wins in two weeks, that they'll risk 'undefeated tc winner' on his stallion page????

Do you really think it would impact his stud fee? I don't. If he stays sound they'll run him in the Travers. If he loses they'll have an excuse and retire him the next day. If he wins they'll send him to the Classic where there is already the built in excuse that he didn't handle the cushion track. You have to keep in mind though with the amount he is insured for at the slightest hint of an injury they could step in and say they won't insure him if he continues to run (like they did with Afleet Alex).

there's no undefeated tc winner-that would be his legacy, and set him apart-if he wins.. if he loses, i agree they won't risk a second loss. hasn't anything to do with what the stud fee will be set at, and has everything to do with the same circumstances that made smarty and alex disappear after new york.
they say they're interested in the the travers and bcc--but smarty was going to run again, as was alex. we know how that turned out. remember pletchers comments a couple years ago about this very subject? he said no way a tc winner would run again, that's it's just the way it is. and i think he's right.

The popular horizontal betting options have done wonders for the egos of trainers that win little races.
