Let's call a spade a spade.

He isn't a trainer and shouldn't be described as one.

Well he really isn't an opportunist like PETA. He believes in what he is selling. PID had a pretty nice meet. I don't know if everyone should go to it but he sure has a right to push it. His surface appears to be the best surface out there if you think dirt racing needs to end.

tiggerv 05-07-2008 10:11 AM

What a douche. Trying to make a dollar off a few high profile breakdowns is pathetic.

sumitas 05-07-2008 10:27 AM

There has not been a commitment in the last year by any track to install a synthetic surface. When is the right time to discuss replacing dirt ? Good article, thanks hooves.

KY_Sasquash 05-07-2008 10:29 AM

I wish somebody would tell one of the authors of these pieces for NBC, NY Times, etc....about horses like Drill Down, Teuflesberg, Crown of Thorns, Into Mischief, Georgie Boy, etc.....it's the one fact that's completely being ignored-plenty of horses have been injured on the synthetic surfaces (soft tissue and tendon injuries), too. Its part of the game.

SniperSB23 05-07-2008 10:37 AM

Here's a novel concept. How about a dirt track with high breakdown rates spend as much money as it would take to put in a synthetic surface on creating a much safer dirt surface? Then let's see what happens to the breakdown rates. I bet they'll drop just as much as they have on the synthetics. And we'll still have dirt racing. What did Saratoga have last year, maybe one breakdown on the dirt? All I remember was the Frankel filly in the Ballerina who likely broke her hip coming out of the gate which could have happened running on pavement or marshmallows.

MaTH716 05-07-2008 10:41 AM

The guy is a douche. He is just trying to capitalize on a tradgedy. Reminds me of the guy that tried to sell parachutes to companies and skyscrapers after 9/11. It is just an unfortunate occurance that can not be prevented no matter what they run on.
