Fri am So. Florida update... CDI blames horsemen

Fridays Sun-Sentinel:

http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/h...,3748372.story

from the article:

(Calder President Ken) Dunn is concerned that disgruntled racing fans, who come to the track expecting to bet the Derby, will vent their wrath at the track. "People aren't going to understand it's the horsemen doing this. We'll bear the brunt of it."

also from the article:

Dunn said the track plans to have a phone message hotline (305-625-1311) on Friday and Saturday to inform fans if there has been any change, which will allow simulcasts of Churchill's races.

I called the hotline. They are not taking any of the races on Fri or Sat. The hotline blames Kentucky horsemen.

I was at Palm Beach Kennel Club Yesterday...they said you CAN bet Derby and Oaks there.....I wonder if they are not tied to Calder.

Just called Palm Beach....cant bet The Derby there either....nice job Calder. This should basically finish off Calder. They will have pissed off every horse player in Florida. I'll be laughing in a few weeks when Calder has to shutdown because NOBODY is betting there...will be nice to see the horsemen down here all go broke and be forced to live out in refrigerator boxes out by I-95. F#ck em.

I don't understand. I thought the only thing they were fighting over was ADW money. I didn't know that simulcast money was ADW (Advanced Deposit Wagering)

guess not

so.... is everyone n south Florida going to give up gambling on horses?

sumitas 05-02-2008 10:20 AM

Is this the new guy at Calder on the hot seat ? Didn't Calder just let go an experienced horseman at the helm ?

SCUDSBROTHER 05-02-2008 12:50 PM

Oh,don't worry about the blame going to the wrong place. We are gunna remember who got greedy, and ruined this week. They're gunna regret what they did.Tracks were (and still are) wrong for running races without the on-line wagering necessary to pay these purses.

I see that on their website and also heard the very end of a radio conversation stating that as well. Unforunately is too late in the day to make it down there. Definitely heading their tomorrow. Does anyone understand how they are the exception to the rest of the sites in So Fla?

Palm Beach Kennel Club and GP cut a deal to get the signal through Tampa Bay Downs. Those are the only two places down here to bet the CD card...

Oh man if I had plans to bet the Derby tomorrow at Calder and I hadn't been paying attention....I would be pissed when I showed up. I wonder what this will do for the pools...only the smarter bettors will be there.

My advice--get to GP EARLY

You SURE PBKC got a deal? I really don't have time to travel to GP to place my bets. PBKC is only a 40 min drive.

That is GREAT news! Hubby will be happy. While I am prepping the food for the Derby party, he can run down to the track.

Positive....I was there today.....Whole CD card was available..I made my Derby bets there before I left. I would suggest going early as the place is gonna be a zoo.

I wish I would have known. Hubby was right there this afternoon. He will go early. We have to be at the party by 2pm.
