Bennie Stutts

What a enjoyable interview with Mr. Stutts, this guy sure doesn't sound like he's 70 years old! The excitement in his voice is what thoroughbred racing is all about...the small time trainer with a chance of a lifetime. It's hard not to root for this guy and his Smooth Air. Hope he does well after his fever bout and fires big on Saturday. Would love to see this guy in the winner's circle rather than the Pletchers, Asmussens and Dutrows of the world. Kudos to you Steve with the interview! :)

(meant this thread for ATR room...sorry!)

I agree Triple H, a great listen for sure.

Derby Fever has finally kicked into high gear with me. Took long enough.

Agree 1000%. This is the kind of guy people just love to root for. A real ol' time horseman, loving the game and having the time of his life. He's been around the backstretch his entire life and you can just hear the passion for this incredible game every single time he opens his mouth. There are just certain people you listen to when they speak -- and there is a passion that knows no bounds! He's one of them.

Like I was just reading about Richie Migliore hustling to get to Churchill to work Bob Black Jack. A great ambassador for the sport, talk to Migliore -- any day, any time -- and all you hear is passion for the game. Another guy you just want to root for.

Like him or not, just like last year -- Calvin Borel -- meat and potatoes jock his entire life, out every morning working, helping out his brother at the barn, and look at the passion and emotion that this guy showed after winning the Derby. Wow! You are right Triple H -- that's what this game is all about!

Glad those that tuned in enjoyed Bennie.. That a man like this, whose entire life has been devoted to racing, is receiving this recognition is the defining element of Derby 134.

If you missed it, here's Hour 1 of Monday's show. It's the entire second half hour...

I thoroughly enjoyed the interview. It was like a breath of fresh air. I love seeing the old school ways continue to work in this era.

I will be rooting for them on Saturday.

Fantastic interview.

Steve,

Is that "Clap Your Hands Say Yeah" playing when you go to breaks?

MISTERGEE 04-29-2008 01:23 PM

i wish the guy who trains that horse that won 17 in a row you interviewed could get some of that enthusiasm, geez maybe when he gets to 30 in arow he will crack a smile.
