Kip Deville's 2008 according to Dutrow in DRF:

The 5 1/2-month layoff from the Breeders' Cup to the Maker's Mark was "all by design," said Richard Dutrow Jr., who trains Kip Deville.

Dutrow said Kip Deville will be kept fresh all year. He said he did not envision Kip Deville running again until the Woodbine Mile in September, and then onto the Breeders' Cup Mile at Santa Anita in October.

This would be the opposite of him starting KD 5 days apart last summer in the classic Shoemaker Mile to Californian trainer move.

does not make any sense to me, he's 5 with not much pedigree.
why not keep winning races, i have never liked him, but he seems like he could dominate on the turf up to 1 1/8

makes no sense to bring a horse off a 5.5 month layoff with the intent of racing him one time and then lay him off again for 5 months!

with that pedigree, i would expect him to keep trying to wrack up easy money stakes wins. i have a feeling that by fall, maybe some of these bad 3yos will be on turf and at least a few will be tougher to beat than what's out there in the current grass division.

dont you also think he is effective up to a 1 1/8 there are a lot of spots, why not a full campagin ? race every month

He's definitely best at a mile. He's gotta be worth something as a stud if he keeps winning G1s.

maybe like a 3k stud fee ?

seeing as how his old man stands for more than twice that, i'd say that's pretty low. and if he repeats in the bc?

I dunno. Kipling stands for $7500 and he wasn't much of a runner. KD's dam has black type but not much of a ped. I don't think $10K would be unreasonable for a multiple G1 winner.

yea i guess your right, maybe like 10-15, but still why not run him.......once a month for the 2 seassons lay off after bc, come back in the makers, and pick the spots.

Isn't this the sort of horse that would have everything to gain and nothing to lose by trying on a synthetic track again, this time on more than 5 days rest? Why not try the Californian again? If it doesn't work you still have three months to the Woodbine Mile.

especially with everything being so weak... 3yr olds, older horses... everything

and he's actually got a good pedigree. kipling is by gulch, who needs no introduction, and his dam is a full to summer squall, and a half to ap indy. then you have encino, his dams sire, who is a half sibling to terlingua, and a full sibling to royal academy.
you can't just go by where his sire was standing to say whether he has a good pedigree or not.

klondike katie didn't do much, that's true-and her dam was unraced, but vigors was a hell of a horse.
kipling has one ok considering the mares he's gotten to date. wonder what he'll do with better now that he's moved?

Who the hell knows what Dutrow is up to? He's probably using a drug on Kip that takes 5 months to recover from.

The old man only stands for more because of Kip DeVille. I think he was a $1500 stallion before Kip went on a tear last season. And he was in Oklahoma or something.
