review: "Betting the Kentucky Derby"

Got a gift certificate for Amazon so ordered a bunch of stuff, including the newly published Betting the Kentucky Derby. It offers a lot of good statistical info in one place, I guess, but it's definately written for the casual handicapper. Pass on it if you're not just starting out.

On the other hand, can't wait until Bet With the Best 2 arrives. Also ordered Betting Synthetic Surfaces, and am curious as to whether it will contain anything useful.

I am about halfway through Bet with the Best 2 and have been a bit dissapointed. Most of the book could be an advertisement for Formulator 4 and the tips offered are nothing that haven't been written about a million times before.

True about the "advertisement for Formulator 4". I'll stick with my Bris PP's since I haven't made a career out of handicapping.......yet. ;)

I've read about some of the tips mentioned in this book before, but others I had not seen before. I think they will be useful to me.

Overall, I enjoyed the book. I'm going through it for the third time now, highlighting parts that I will refer to in the future.

Let me know how you liked this book, since I definitely need help on the new surfaces in California. Sheesh! :(
