Best DWC Day runner who.....

... didn't hit the board.

Anyone?

Happy Boy was entered but scratched because Godolphin felt he was too hard pressed to make the race after suffering from a leg infection and missing his prep race.

I believe he is better than any dirt horse in America not named Curlin - and think he might be a total freak on the dirt.

If they take him to Europe, for turf racing, instead of bringing him here - they are even more hopeless than anyone can imagine.

I was surprised that they went ahead and entered him... not surprised that he was scratched. He and Ramonti both had the same thing, as I'm sure you know.

Agree he could be special.

The others though... did anyone else impress you?

Better Talk Now...

Mine is Rosberg. :)

brockguy 03-31-2008 04:25 PM

Creachadoir for me, fast ground over a mile, he will be very good, Id nearly be tempted to try 6f in the July Cup if it was decent ground. I always thought that he was a 7f horse last year. For Non Godolphin fans, Kocab was a big improver last year and may scoop a G1 or 2 for Monsieur Fabre on turf this summer.

Diabolical. They have ruined him.

Do you really think so?

I don't.

Respectfully, I think and hope you're wrong.:)

brockguy 03-31-2008 05:00 PM

lads are you for real. Hes run 3 times for them, stumbled first time out, finished 4th, won a G3 very impressively last time out and disappointed like the whole stable the other night.. its very very premature to say he's ruined (RPR has his penultimate run as a Career PB!!)..... some people just want to have a go at Godolphin at every opp that some comments border on the ridiculous...

tiggerv 03-31-2008 05:08 PM

What term would you like me to use then? They bought him specifically for this race so all of his training and prior races were supposed to set him up for a big effort yet he finished way up the track. This is a horse who probably was the 2nd or 3rd best sprinter in the world last year behind Midnight Lute. Now he is finishing near allowance level horses like Cobalt Blue and Esperamos on a track he had run over. What is the excuse?

What are they going to do with him? Is he coming back over to the US?

brockguy 03-31-2008 05:14 PM

One swallow doesnt make a summer..

He beat Star Crowned 4 and a bit lengths giving him weight 2 starts back so using him as a yardstick, Diabolical clearly didnt run his race and would have been close to Benny on his previous run had he run up to form..

Clearly things didnt go right for Diabolical or many of Godolphin's team on Saturday, so their plan didnt come to fruition..

Im sure he'll be stateside this summer.

Watch the race replay and see the ride the guy put on PT. No. 6 with white blinkers. He was up close in the early going, so it's fairly easy to see.

Take a guess...

:D

Diabolical raced in 4 bandages. Is that new? Just like Discreet Cat last year, he wore black bandages on all 4.
I didn't see it on the simo but spoke today to a friend who was in the walking ring for all 6 races and caught Diabolical in fronts.

To answer the original question, Vermilion is far better than that, as is Literato.

Quijano in my opinion.

I would have to watch the two turf races again and look for someone who was very unlucky but still ran a 4th or 5th place finish.

As far as the dirt races went - the depth was lacking.

His maiden win 5 years ago at Santa Anita was nothing short of awesome.

After which, he was flown to Dubai, and didn't run against for another 3+ years. Fine work they did with him!

I don't know though MMSC, while Rosberg once looked like a freak, he's an old guy now and his glory day is long gone,

I did a triple take when I saw his name in the PP's ....

Thanks for that.:)

The first time I saw him / ever heard of him was in November..... the Dubal Potline Classic (something like that).

He just looked great winning and I'd wondered about the quotes that followed, about how nothing had gone right for him. How he deserved to win something big after all he'd been through. How Charpy never lost faith in him.

Don't know what happened to him, why he was off for so long, but it was nice reading your recollection.

It was thrilling watching him and wondering if maybe, maaaaybe, he really would win.

Aaaah well.
