Hypo Kentucky Derby ... 1970's Style

You want a really, really, really, really good field for a hypothetical Kentucky Derby?

Let's look at the 1970's ... how about a field which includes ...

... Secretariat, Sham, Forego, Affirmed, Alydar, Seattle Slew, Spectacular Bid, General Assembly, Riva Ridge, Key To The Mint, Foolish Pleasure, Avatar, Bold Forbes, Honest Pleasure, Canonero, and Little Current?

Yeah ... there's a couple of good ones in that field.

Yeah it is a good field, but I don't really like any hypotheticals that contain Big Red because, in my opinion, if he is in the race it really does not matter who the other horses are.
I would take a Secretariat/Affirmed exacta.

Bid would have beat all of these with his mouth wde open and his tongue hanging out.

Yeah, the best field ever.....obviously they are racing for third though:
1. Secretariat
2. Sham
3. The one who gets the best trip

I completely agree especially with his four year old form. None of these could have touched him at four...not at a mile and a quarter.

The Bid wins at 1:57 and change.

Ummm ... the Kentucky Derby is like a race for like 3YOS ... and like ... they don't let 4YOS run in it.

Like I don't understand that ... like why they have to be so judgmental about it ... I mean ... hello ... why can't a 4YO run in your silly race? Is this like some sort of fascist society?

Grosses me out ... you know?

Except they don't run the Kentucky Derby for four year olds and that 1:57 was run over a rock hard Hollywood Park surface

Those piddly facts just get in the way.

I will say this for the bid that day he ran the 1:57 at hollywood:

He liked the track and he was totally "being himself" that day.

Well, the poster didn't specify. I pretended that SB was running in the best form of his entire career in the KD. :D If he was running in his best form, there wasn't a horse that could beat him.

...and this dude loves the 'Bid:D

If anyone has a shot at Big Red, I personally think it'd be Affirmed...horse just refused to be passed.
