2/17: Santa Anita ($420k C/O)

Exciting afternoon Saturday with $15k Magna 5 score from Derby Trailer 'tiggerv' on skien that didn't produce huge prices, but was treacherous nonetheless.

Leg A---Golden Dawn ($10.00), Laurel Park 10th
Leg B---D. Double You ($8.80), Santa Anita Park 4th
Leg C---Shes All Etish ($10.00), Gulfstream Park 9th
Leg D---Mananan McLir ($8.00), Santa Anita Park 5th
Leg E---Motorcycle Tom ($9.40), Gulfstream Park 10th

Golden Dawn upset my own single of Control System, but the other solid possible single Mananan McLir came through at Santa Anita to help those that went we him. 68 winners split a pool of just under $1,000,000.

Tampa's Derby Preview Day was strong with Zito's Fierce Wind stepping forward off his GP form to win the Sam F. Davis topping Big Truck, in a solid rebound, and Smooth Air, an OK, persevering third. Dreaming of Anna made her 4 year old debut successful with a gutty front end win in the Gr. III Endeavour, and Tom Albertrani looks like he has a good filly in Suncoast winner Vaulcluse.

At Santa Anita, a $90k+ carryover swelled to $420k for Sunday with the $100.00+ winner of the nightcap tipping the scales into another tough six pack of races which I hope to decipher below with pool likely to aopproach $3,000,000...

Hope you did well Saturday.

I had written off Big Truck as being simply a good New York Bred with limited Open capabilities. He showed me something yesterday.

jms,

Agreed.. Was really thinking that Tagg had just overstated the horse's potential. He carried on last summer about him extensively, (for Tagg anyway), and when he was ordinary in the Remsen and dreadful in the Hutch, it seemed like there just wasn't much there. He's a great horseman though, and if he thought the colt had talent, we probably should have just trusted his judgement. Cost me the VERY generous tri yesterday as I left him out...

I was at Toga for his Very Impressive maiden win and very memorable race call "Big Truck Rollllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllssssssss". Are you as dissapointed in Z-Humors performance as I was.

No.. As I mentioned in the blurb, I doubt whether Mott really was looking for much. He gave him a full month, five weeks in fact, off the Jackpot, and only gave him a half mile and three moderate 5f breezes after that. A race is worth 5 workouts, and since he's already a GSW and multiple GSP, there's no harm in an ordinary performance in a listed stake. Tampa is famous as a place where horses leave fitter than they arrived. If he's blah next time, I'd get concerned.

He has to 'get faster' yet too, so I'd look for Mott to begin to try to sharpen his speed this next period before the FL Derby or whatever he's pointed toward. May end up as too slow when it's all said and done, but being out of an AP Indy mare, he should continue to improve with maturity and added distance.

(As a proviso on all this, the one thing that I wondered about with Z Humor from the get-go was the $240k KEE price. That said something wasn't 100% with him as a yearling since the DistHumor's average had to be twice that and his fee is $300k. Hope it doesn't turn out that Mott has already gotten what he can from him.)

Same... had played a heavy Fierce Wind/Smooth Air box and felt pretty sick when Big Truck (a horse I had been on for a while) split them for a $348 tri...

Steve, going to give the pk4 another shot today, playing with pmac. Honestly have nothing better to do and I love it. Good luck today.

Hate this card. With backups I would be over a grand in tickets and that might only buy me 3 of 6 so I will just play my main and hope to get lucky.

I can't figure out why Great Seige is 2-1. We are talking about a 1 for 30 trainer. The horse will have to be lengths better than this field to win in a photo.

Totally agree. He would be no better than 5th on my ticket.

Now watch him draw off.

Would love a carryover, but I think the favorite will take it.Just 2 horses covered(3 and 12.)If somebody goes with the chalk, then there is a shot, but if they just let the 12 go,I doubt they run her down.TOPPERS HORSE IS GOOD ENOUGH To catch in the middle of the race, but not sure it can finish race with Enriquez.Kind of a 5 1/2 f horse. Needs a good ride(come on idiot..Enriquez.)
