zach thomas.. thanks and gtfo

released by the fins..new gm is for real..most would not have the balls to do that to a guy who gave it all through some very bad teams..kudos to the tuna trying to make them a decent team........

I've never seen a good LB worse at shedding a block than Zach Thomas. When he could evade the block he was great but once he was engaged he'd usually end up on his ass. Not surprisingly as he's lost a step he's become next to useless. Maybe he'd be useful to someone on kick coverage.

Cannon Shell 02-15-2008 08:58 AM

Thomas has been selected to seven Pro Bowls and is one of only three players to record 100 tackles in each of his first 10 seasons.

I guess he might have had 200 tackles a year if he shed those blocks better?

I didn't dispute he was a good linebacker. I said I've never seen a good linebacker worse at shedding blocks. The thing is if you can't shed blocks and lose a step your value drops a lot more dramatically than it may for other linebackers. This guy is a leader and was a great player, if Parcells thought he had anything left he'd keep him around to help lead and mentor the new guys coming in. Pro Bowls don't mean that much. Ruben Brown has been to nine of them and isn't that great of a lineman. He used to absolutely own Zach Thomas though when the Bills and Dolphins would meet up.

Trent Green and Marty Booker gone too.

Something like $10 mil freed up.

Whose going to play QB?

Maybe Bledsoe for a year. Hearing that on the radio.

You better get the Pro Bowl offensive line then. Or pray that people forget that he's completely useless when you blitz him. Might as well just go for Losman if you want a former crappy Bills QB that can't handle the blitz, or Todd Collins for that matter. Rob Johnson is probably available.

He was small and short for a NFL middle linebacker but he made tons of tackles on some really good defensive units. As a Dolphin fan I may be biased but I thought he was a very good player for a longtime. However as you stated, he cant afford to lose a step especially with the type of contract that he has. I hope he retires.

Unless they get real lucky, next year's a throwaway anyhow. Doesn't really matter who plays next year. More important is what they do for a #2 who has to be ready the next year.

They have bigger problems on defense. Not the least of which is Joey Porter who got $30+ Million for 5 years with $15 or $20 guaranteed. He was a total bust last season.

Cannon Shell 02-15-2008 09:37 AM

I hope he retires also. He was very good for a # of years but he's small, now slow, has injury issues and at 35 he's pretty old.

Miami's offensive line is a lot better than most realize. Ronnie Brown was tearing it up before he was injured. They don't need to worry about their O-line. Then again with the human version of a tackle dummy in Bledsoe standing back there Im not sure if there's any line that could keep him from getting clobbered.

I tend to disagree. Brown was getting his numbers but much of that may be due to teams not playing much more than straight up schemes against them since Miami often trailed during the early part of the season. The problem is that they need so much help in so many other areas. Hopefully Parcells with draft with the best player mentality instead of trying to plug in gaps. I would hope that they are able to trade down from #1 and get a few more good picks but that may not be easy with no standout player this year.

trent green..no problem .booker was ok but they didint use him ..

KY_Sasquash 02-15-2008 09:53 AM

Good point, could be, I didnt think of it in that manner nor did i watch many of their games. What do you think they'll do with their draft pick-obviously they want to trade it, but I doubt that happens. Who do you think they'll select? Jake Long? Dorsey? Ryan? Those would be the ones that I'd lean towards, although Im not entirely sold on Ryan as a franchise QB just yet.

I just think that Russell will not live up to the number 1 pick billing and the Dolphins will make out well considering where they got Beck. Give him some actual recievers and see what he can do.

I don't know, good Q.

He didn't look very good when he played, imo. But at least he played. The Tuna will decide.

In Tuna we trust.

SniperSB23 02-15-2008 10:02 AM

Why wouldn't they just cut Porter now? Take the huge cap hit now since this year is a throwaway anyways and be in great salary cap position next year.
