Toughest To Get By

During the whole time you've watched horseracing, which rider is the toughest to get by late in a stakes race?

To me,this is an easy question. It's Gary Stevens. After that, though,it gets a lot less clear cut.I'd say Johnny V by a whiska over PVAL,GOMEZ,and McCarron.Gary Stevens is not the best rider I have ever seen ride, but he was the toughest guy to get by in the last sixteenth of a stakes race.

Dominguez. Remember Afleet Alex in the Preakness? (Yeah, yeah...I know...it was a total accident).

It wasn't a stakes, but I think people who had M SCANDAL wouldn't have a problem with Gomez being picked as a tough guy to get by late.

Solis is technically almost impossible to get pass because he's in last most of the race then takes his horse 7 wide on the turn.

Cordero. You practically had to kill him to get by him when the money was on the line.

SentToStud 02-11-2008 03:29 PM

I don't think too many got by Cordero on the inside.

Chop Chop in his prime.

Always the last race at Aqueduct. He carried 'em home.

Thought the same thing. He really knew how to ration a horse's energy in routes.
