AQU: Interesting Whirlaway shaping up

$100,000 Whirlaway on Feb. 2 and Giant Moon will pass in favor of the Gotham in March, (a good move by Schosberg IMO)..

Barrier Reef & Roman Emperor back from the Count Fleet...

Trombo's Cave's Valley trying to rebound from a poor effort in the DeD Jackpot..

And 2 Pletchers.. Spanky Fischbein who you know, and Texas Wildcatter, a VERY interesting Stonerside homebred who demolished a PHA ALW field at the end of last year..

Also Apple Special whom I'm not familiar with...

How am I going to sleep?

Let me guess; WILDLY. There'll be YET ANOTHER speed bias Whiralway day and some plug will wire the field and look like a world beater doing so. And will not be heard from again. And, we'll get another one of those WIPEOUT race forms: nothing gains, nothing passes, everything retreats in relation to the winner. Luckily, there are plenty of turf races on tab at other tracks (well, those that aren't saving their turf courses for polo, that is)

That's the only reason Cave Valley is coming.

Apple Special is a Maryland bred who won the Maryland Juvenile Championship Stakes (8f) at Laurel last year.

Fear not, fat man, the Whirlaway has been won by closing stalwarts like Sort It Out and Little Matth Man.

I am about as big a Stonerside fan as there is, but Texas Wildcatter was drowned by Cool Coal Man in an allowance race at Churchill on 11/4. He did rebound nicely at Philly, but the quality of a six horse PHA n1x in late December is questionable at best.

So, it feels like I will be able to sleep after all.

If you are looking for a legit Derby horse in this race, getting some well deserved sleep is a good option. But this is being run in the dead of winter in the coldest place in New York City. What more can you ask for in a stakes race on the first Saturday in February in Ozone Park?

I'm not looking for anything and have about zero interest in thinking about these races at this point. I was simply joking about Byk thinking this was shaping up as an interesting race.

I have spent hundreds of days in the dead of winter at Aqueduct. My corner, on the West side of Manhattan, just off the water, is much colder.

Fair enough. But while we're trying to stay warm remember one thing. 180 days till Opening Day.

That I remember pretty much every day!

Opening day may coincide with the $1200 I'll be getting for my tax rebate.

Let it Ride!

$400 WPS

Just kidding. My wife probably already has that money spent.

impress me

For the interest of the division will be rooting for a horse like a Cave's Valley or a Roman Emperor to run a career best.

Spanky Fischbein seems to be rounding into an honest horse.
