Shaq?

I GUARANTEE that if the Bulls bucked up and got him in a trade that they would go to the East finals. He is exactly what they are missing and I don't believe that hurt stuff for a minute. I understand he is getting old basketball wise but he could give them TWO years......

Have you seen him play lately? He is slower than me and I can still hit at least 70% from the line. The Bulls may need something but Shaq is not it. They have a lot of mismatched parts.

blackthroatedwind 01-23-2008 11:07 PM

He has no game left and is pretty unlikely to stay healthy. Why would anyone take on that huge contract?

Scav 01-23-2008 11:19 PM

If the Bulls had Howard from Orlando they wouldn't lose. They need a big guy in the middle that will take a double team and let our shooters, shoot.

I actually think they should trade to get Kobe, Thomas is garbage, he can't shoot, he can jump and dunk, that is it. Trade Henrich's ass with him too.....If Gordon had a big man in the middle he would be a top 8 player in the league.

Side note: Joakim has played well the last couple days, but he also has zero shot

I agree about the money but the Bulls are always under budget and if they were looking for a short term stimulus, it might be it. Shaq is just pissed that his girl wants out and his team sucks....

King Glorious 01-23-2008 11:40 PM

I think it's wrong to say that Shaq has nothing left. He's still got a little. Look around the league. How many centers are getting 14 and 7 a game as he is? He's nowhere close to his old dominant self but he can still be productive. If he's got some shooters around him, he can still get them some open looks and they can help to get him a little room. He's still shooting up over 55% from the field. He's not going to be anyone's leading scorer or go-to guy and if the offense has to revolve around him, you would be in trouble.

The only chance of it happening would be for Miami to bite the bullet and offer Shaq a buyout and letting him become a free agent and him being willing to take a huge paycut. This might be good for both parties though. The Heat aren't going anywhere this year. They are likely to be a top 6 lottery team and there are a few really good prospects coming out in the draft. They money they would free up from cutting Shaq lose, contract wise, could be used to try to lure an established vet or two. For Shaq, he'd get to try to go out with some dignity instead of the way things are ending now.

They should trade for Bynum.

That makes a lot of sense, King, but somehow I just wonder how he can really help anybody when his current team, with one of the stars of the league in Wade, loses basically every game. I mean, they lost at home to the Knicks for God's sake, so how much does Shaq really have? Mild numbers are deceptive and considering how the Heat is doing I wonder if he's really helpful at all.

I think Shaq is hurt pretty bad. He has a hip injury and some of the fluid from inflammation in the joint has gotten into his quadricep muscle. Even if he gets back, he really can't jump well and can't really run (not that he was ever quick).

What makes it worse is that the injury is to his left hip/leg , his pivot foot side. It used to be that when he got the ball, teams would wait for him to take his one-bounce dribble and collapse at that point. Since he first got hurt in early December, defenses are not even doing that.

I see a few games live a year and was there for the Knicks game (can I get that 4 hours of my life back?). He looked just awful. Aside from Wade, the whole team is bad. They should shut down Shaq for the year, get a high lottery number and hope he comes back healthier.

No wonder Riley's not coaching next year.

Shaq is done. He cant stay healthy and hasnt for a few years now. He is simply too big and his body has worn out. And Miami is still on the hook for a lot of his salary against the cap even if they buy him out, which has zero chance of happening. They arent going to give him $30 million to go somewhere else because they know they are dead in the water for at least a few years when his entire contract will come off the cap. That will give them tons of space in 2 years when the high draft picks they get have a little experience under their belt.

Two words for Miami's center problems:

Randy Moss.

And if Howard played for the Cavs they may go 70-12 for the year but that aint happening. What shooters are you looking to free up? Who will be left if they traded for Kobe? I'm sure he will love the offense when he is on the court with Gordon, Nocioni, Noah and Wallace. Gordon being a top 8 player in the league has a lesser chance of occuring than you becoming Nascar driver of the year. Gordon is good at one thing. Shooting.

The one with the braids would make Riley a hall of fame coach.

He would also make a hof'er out of Wade.

Before the writers strike?

Mortimer 01-24-2008 10:02 AM

After...Randy Moss is now doing all of the writing for everyone.

He will make them all award winners.

Shaq's Mother is also intrigued by Charles Mansion.

Whoa. You must be hitting some bad peyote, Tonto. Shaq has already made out his bucket list, and thankfully, "stealing 30 million from the Bulls while on injured reserve" isn't listed. The team has fulfilled their quota of employing useless centers, thank you. Aside from the laughs he provides loyal Bulls fans with his feathery touch at the free throw line, Ben Wallace is the biggest bust of a free agent in team history. Don't expect to see Paxton getting fitted for a dunce hat any time soon by making the same mistake again.

And who do you think is going to trade Kobe to the Bulls? That trade was never going to happen. That was a case of a 30 year old, multi-millionaire imbicile dragging his feet so he could delay reporting to training camp on time. Believe it or not, superstar scoring machines are hard to come by in the NBA. Teams that have them will do almost anything in order to keep them, including allowing themselves to be subjected to public ridicule, embarassment and second guessing from that player, lavishing obscenely high contracts upom them and standing by them regardless of how wrong they are during their inevitable legal entanglements, like a rape trial every now and then. Unless Isaiah morphs into the GM of the Lakers (much to the orgasmic delight of every Knick fan on the planet), no one with two brain cells firing back to back makes this trade.

You forgot to mention Larry Hughesless.
