Thanks, just wondering because I've been having a little conversation with Riley Mott (Bill Mott's son) on facebook about horse racing and he was talking about Riley Tucker, wanted to see if I could get some insight from someone besides him.

I'll admit his name caught my eye but he has a decent pedigree. Has he raced yet?

IrishofNDMan 01-16-2008 06:54 PM

I think in September he got 2nd in a stakes at Arlington, still looking for more info. I guess they are pointing him at an Allowance at Gulfstream, just worked a bullet.

Thanks.

It seems a little complicated than that one race as he has actually raced three times now with promise in all.

1) Broke Maiden at Belmont 7/20 by an easy 1/2 dozen in MSW with not much in the race IMO

2) 8/16 Saratoga Special when he raced very competitively after getting whacked at the break. Both Kodiak Kowboy and The Roundhouse were 1st and 2nd so no shame there

3rd) The aforementioned Arlington Futurity 2 weeks later......The gate again was even more trouble sending him sideways for a bit before he briefly led "Wicked Style" who outnodded him for the win but again not bad on short rest and playing pin ball with the starting gate. If they can get this one pointed in the right direction as the race starts you may have a decent price one day...

One for my watch list ...Thanks!!

I was thinking it was a nice looking horse myself, I guess they are actually looking at an Allowance at Gulfstream or even possibly the Sam Davis at Tampa.

Owned by Zayat Stables, here is a little interview with Ahmed Zayat's son.

Interesting coming from Justin Zayat in the interview:

Mushka - any day dreams she follows in Rags to Riches steps and goes for the Belmont ? I mean Empire Maker, Seeking the Gold, Seattle Slew, are all in her pedigree tracing back to foundation mare Comely Nell, 1 1/2 shouldn't be a problem, she could probably run from AQU to Belmont and still whip most horses.

Justin- Mushka is a maybe for the triple crown trail, we are hoping she is the next Rags to Riches, her move in the Demoiselle was eye popping. But I think the Zayat horse for the Derby would be Alaazo, you should watch his maiden race he is a really good one. Mushka could go there but I would want her to run in the Oaks cause she is much tougher than the other fillies I’ve seen. I like Zayat Stable’s chances for pulling a double Derby weekend for sure.

Thanks for posting these. I went back and watched the replays. I liked his race in the Arlington Futurity. He seems like a "gutsy" horse. Even in the Saratoga Special. I like a horse who doesn't give up.

hahahaha, looks like it would be Mushka and Alaazo on your ass then.

if that happens, i'll get randy moss and tom brady tattoos on my ass.

While I agree they are being a bit unrealistic about Mushka's ability perhaps this sort of thinking will get us a fuller field in the Belmont each year by other owners who have a better filly than colt, Rags just had to break ground first.

It seems it would be easier for a filly to win the Belmont than the Derby overall when you look at the history of the races and the quality of each field, particularly in recent years.

Here is a link to an article about (and a picture from) the Arlington-Washington Futurity. There is a good picture of the top two at the finish and you also get Rene Douglas's (Riley Tucker's jock) comments on the race:
