Yipee!!! Bucky Is Back!!!

I know some of you may not care, but some of the ladies do so I thought I would post because I am so happy.

My Bucky has been out of commission since before Halloween. The halloween horse show was the last thing we did together. He had two BAD abcesses in both front feet. One was about 2-2.5 inches long and it came out on his coronet band. Then about a week or so ago, he developed sand colic. BUT he is better now. Loves his metamucil. :o

I actually got to ride him this weekend. Just for long walks and about five minutes of trotting. Going to bring him back into work SLOWLY. He was very stiff going but he has been in a stall and TINY paddock for a month so he was happy to go out. He is now back into the HUGE 2.5 acre paddock he and his other horse friends share.

Most touching thing he did? I was getting my saddle out of my car and walking towards his stall. He saw me, opened his stall door (his owner forgot to back up clip it shut), he walked right out of his stall to the set of crossties, stood perfectly still, turned his head around and looked at me as if to say, "I am ready". (He could have EASILY run right out of the barn and headed for the grass to eat but he didn't) I had tears in my eyes as I told him "I have missed you too buddy." I don't think he liked me riding the other horses that his owner has. :D

So no shows for a while, but I am just happy to have him back. Going to do the shows in Wellington this year but they don't start until May so we have months to get him back into it.

That's a great story, BuffyM! Thanks for sharing it. I guess some horses like school time, especially when they like their teacher, too. :)

Two weeks ago as I finished a wee bit of schooling with the horse I've been riding at the new place I'm at. I walked the horse, Cosmo, out of the ring to go home, and Cosmo promptly turned around and walked back into the ring! Tee hee. We did five more minutes of figure-8s and then he was ready to leave. Gotta love the smart horses.

By the way, LOVE the signature!!!

Sounds like Cosmo is a smart boy like Bucky. Do you ride him most of the time?

By the way, after I got the call from Buck's owners saying he was colicing and the vet was on her way, I cried the entire 45mins from my office to the barn scared out of my mind that I was going to lose him. His owners laughed at me when I got there and they took one look at me. But they do know that their horse is WELL LOVED.

Glad to hear Buck is doing better, Buffy... :)

I have been given the chance to school a very green (and young) thoroughbred mare at the barn of a friend, so I am slowly but surely getting my a$$ back into shape so I can start riding her. :D

If I can survive! I've heard that she enjoys a good rear. LOL

She's cute, though. She's bay with a white blaze down her face. Let's see some pictures of Cosmo too. :)

Buffymommy 12-10-2007 12:32 PM

I wanna see pics too of BOTH horses.

That is great news Cajun!!! No reason not to get in shape by riding. :D

Ya know..the Robert BAR is a little over the top.

I never liked Smith nor Wesson.

How about just a mustard squirter?

Mortimer 12-10-2007 03:51 PM

a crop right between the ears on the way up usually takes care of that after a few times.

Thanks, didn't think of that. (Haven't been on her yet, so not sure if she's as bad as they say.) As a kid, one of my old trainers had a QH with a rearing problem and I remember her breaking an egg in between his ears to get him to stop. It worked, but it sure was messy. :D

Mortimer 12-10-2007 10:49 PM

Do you think that would work on Mommy Dearest?

Mortimer 12-10-2007 11:01 PM

Frankly I think a whack on the behind with a wire hanger would straighten her right up.
