Coa

Gonna kill someone......

Scav 11-24-2007 02:25 PM

My fault, that was more the 5 with Cornhelio then it was Coa. what a rough race

Scav 11-24-2007 02:30 PM

I have no cat/dog/chicken/bull in this fight but how doesn't the 5 come down there behind the 3. Is it Garcia's fault for calling fault on the 1 and not the 5 or when they call for an objection it is just about the race in general?

fpsoxfan 11-24-2007 03:30 PM

The incident that you're talking about I believe happened after the 1 played bumper cars with the 3. I have no idea why Coa was not taken down. That was clear robbery. He was inside behind the weakening 2 and decided to whack the three to get position. Then, after getting through he comes out on the 5. I will never understand what goes through the mind of stewards. As it turns out I would have been beat out of the pick-3 with the 2 winning the 9th, so it really didn't matter anyway.

Bobby Fischer 11-24-2007 04:56 PM

IMO looked like Coa and CourtVision slammed both the 3 and the 5.

It was a great ride by Coa(at least the finish of the ride). There is kind of an unwritten rule that if you are trapped you can do a lot to get free as long as the horses you smash are not win contenders. Had the infraction been against the 6 Atoned maybe he comes down.

Much the best horse.

Alan Garcia's ride on Big Truck was HORRIBLE!!!!

Scav 11-24-2007 07:04 PM

I don't think so, it was more Cornhelio f'n up the whole race. If he isn't there Garcia gets a clear run on the outside, and the 1 would have had to mess around inside.

I said it last year about the flavor of the month of that time, Fernando Jara, and people wanted to argue with me. Alan Garcia has a great agent and is proving the point that most people have no idea what constitutes a good rider. Garcia loses with more horses that should win than any rider I have seen in my lifetime. Any imbecile could win with the horses he wins on....but most would win with more than a few he loses on.

Garcia is Mena East.

I agree...seems like he started getting Coa's mounts from Contessa back in Feburary - March when they had an apparent falling out....the guy starts winning at a 14% clip and all of a sudden his agent gets all the live mounts for him and he the next "second coming"....He's not as good as one would think, look at his record prior to 2/07.

It's interesting you say that. I remember him starting out absolutely horrendously last winter and being shocked at what a poor rider he was. I noticed that every horse he rode, speed or no speed, he was pumping away out of the gate. I even asked another rider if this sort of style was at all productive ( not even mentioning specifically who I was talking about ).

Then, suddenly, he started winning. Then Jara and Kiaran seemed to split when Jara got a new agent ( I wonder why ) and suddenly he was the new flavor of the month.

He'll be gone in a couple of years......and a new thorn in my side will emerge.

if alan garcia is terrible then about 90% of the jocks riding at aqueduct should be put in prison and maybe 10% would be considered good. all jocks give crappy rides at times, but i would say garcia rides his share of some nice priced winners not just favorites that almost any of them can win with

I guess I watched most of this race differently than most. One thing for sure is the fact that Garcia caused his share of problems in this race, including almost taking down the 6 in the first turn.

Without having to relive this debacle by going back and watching it again, first off he never even sniffs the rail breaking from the 3 post with a speed horse, then he allows himself to get "blind-switched" (harness term for not realizing someone is coming on the outside, and getting trapped) by Cornelio.. then due to anger or embarassment (my opinion only), he forces his horse into a tiny whole, risking his and the horse's well being. Their is a big difference between patient and clue-less.. had he been just being patient, he would have let Cornelio go and just swung around him.

Bobby Fischer 11-25-2007 09:35 AM

I think Garcia did a bad job of settling the horse after the first turn.
He was taken a little wide by Castellano(on the 2 springs road), but then you see some stop-and-go action which was not very smooth and actually caused his horse to clip heels with Atoned.

I like his choice to stay off the pace. No way Big Truck competes at 9 furlongs as the pacesetter. Once he got the horse to settle, he momentarily had a decent trip, and he was actually given the opportunity to come on even terms entering the far turn. Everything went his way as far as the pace. He just had a terrible setup being locked in behind Atoned ,Springs Road , and inside of Trust N Dustan. When the pace slowed - everyone got on even terms...

Not a whole lot Garcia could have done. Maybe if he "sensed" the traffic jam and went very wide at the end of the backstretch... Thats asking a lot of any jockey.

I have heard or read knocks on just about all the top riders. Jon Court is the rider you never hear about. Always gives his mount a chance. Seldom rides short odds favorite. My opinion he never looses a race but a better horse my beat him.

golfer 11-25-2007 01:16 PM

Speaking of jockeys, did anybody else have the joy of betting on, then witnessing Emishi Warrior in the 8th at Laurel yesterday, when Erik Rodriguez, while in the act of twirling his whip mid stretch, dropped it, then got outfinished (shockingly) while vigorously hand-riding to the wire (beaten by Prado's horse whom they were nice enough to let up the rail).
