Your take on early nominations ?

Is it worthwhile, when the colt is a weanling, to pay for a Breeders Cup nomination ($500), NY Aspirant and NY Futurity @ Finger Lakes ($25 as weanling then bal. of $425 as 2 yr. old), and NY Stallion Stakes NYRA series ($600) ?

It depends. I see alot of entries at Rillito Park in Tucson, Arizona that have Breeders' Cup Nominations that are now running as $1,000 claimers, so for them, no, the nominations were not worth it.

But then again, when you find a diamond in the rough like Kip Deville, then yes, the $500 nomination would have been great, although I am not sure if anyone can nominate or if the stallion has to have credentials too...

That's not the point. By nominating to the BC, you make the horse eligible for the BC bonuses that are available in numerous smaller stakes throughout the country. No BC nom., no BC $$.

Nominate for everything you can nominate for. I can't believe this question is being asked.

Definitely.
I take it the horse in question is a weanling right now? The FL series might be worth 300k by then.

Speaking directly as part owner of a couple of 3yo NY Breds, at least the Stallion Stakes series is a MUST. This year the fields were markedly weaker that the comprable overnight stake fare, and they run for 150K instead of 75K. Complete no brainer.

Thanks friends. :)

Though I personally always nominate mine to the BC and any statebred programs, I could see a guy with a really cheap horse passing on the BC. I mean if your foal is only worth $1000 there is not much reason to spend the $500

Well tx all. Placing a couple more 00 ( = $100,000) on the back of that foal estimate means goin for the nominations.
