Where the Wagerd Dollar Comes From And Other Questions

Let's see how this comes up...

Assume a Thursday at Churchill. What percentage of total wagering is done by:
1. Owners/trainers/others working in the sport?
2. Big (say 300% of ave per capita) bettors not working in the sport?
3. Everyone else?

Assume on-track and off-track betting patterns are identical.

I'd say:
1. 5%
2. 90%
3. 5%

glad you got a chuckle there. So on an average day, say $4 Million wagered, more than $200k is from the barns?

I'll tell ya as a former teller at Beulah a lot more then 5%, I'd guess 15-20% Some of the biggest wagers I took was from Owners and Trainers. Some of the grooms, etc would get drunk on payday and lose a bunch of their pay, it was funny to watch them get loose on the juice and scream at the tv in spanish

yeah don't forget everyone on the breeding farm too...where I used to work the manager in the front office would check for entries out of any of the mares on the farm and for big races would usually go place bets for us.
