It certainly wasn't necessary, though your "why it causes an uproar" article lost all credibility halfway into the first sentence.

Unnecessary? Yes.
"A terrible slur?" Hardly.

yah i know B, its a bad article to put there as to why it upset people. But that was the reaction of Filipinos in the Philippines and most here in the US. I personally have no problem with what was said not one bit. It was just really interesting the reaction it got

Their medical schools are just as good as any other third world nation's.

So she essentially said she wanted a physician who was trained in the american system, which is the best in the world, rather than one from the culture she assumed the physician grew up in. Exactly where is the problem here??

Having not seen the actual show I too make the assumption the man she was talking to wasn't obviously non-filipino, in that case there is concern.

However as a product of the american system where for the mere $250 K in loans, I put into my education, internship, residency and fellowship I am sure the 10 years after college obtaining the credentials for the privilege to practice were in fact the best available in the free world.

No apology is necessary for being proud of american medical care as the best in the world despite it's many imperfections.

she was talking to a white dr btw, which gives less of a reason for these Filipinos to decry foul
