Successful Keeneland Sale Ends...

on a cautionary note as stated in today's tbredtimes.com...http://thoroughbredtimes.com/sales-n...ssful-run.aspx

"Despite the strength of the sale, Russell has a word of caution.

“I don’t think the industry should look at the results of this sale and feel there is no concern for the long-term health of the market,” Russell said. “The breeding industry as a whole must take a long, hard look at its practices, particularly regarding stud fees and the oversupply of horses.

“There are currently too many non-commercial horses being offered. The industry needs to address these issues and encourage more participation in racing before we suffer a painful reality check.”

what does this mean ? should there be a finite number of breeding licenses issued by state per year to control the over supply ?

He is just being "politically correct" though in this case he is probably right

I agree with him (so many hips in that sale should never have been bred, mostly due to inferior or very old mares, but also to a few crappy stallions with superior {read speed} pedigrees, who got the nod for the shed) but as to non-commercial horses....a daughter of Jackpot(who:confused: ) brought close to 50K yesterday...because she looked really good...so who are we to really say so-and-so shouldn't breed....

Jackpot has a lot in common with Jazil - both are medicore sons of Seeking The Gold - both have names starting with the letter J followed up by the vowel A - and both have only one major career win, which came at a distance beyond nine furlongs in both cases.

All in all, Jackpot sucked a lot less. That is probably what I would say is the difference between the two.
