To each his own...

From the article...

Ellis Park, despite its faults and shortcomings, is one of racing's last remaining treasures. It's one of the country's most comfortable tracks. It's like walking in the neighborhood tavern where everyone knows your name. Like putting on a pair of old jeans or loafers.
Yeah...

It's like putting on a pair of old jeans that were sharted in back in 1994 after a three day binge of mushrooms, crystal meth, PBR and brick weed.

What a hilarious piece of fiction, Mr. Guilliams. Bravo.

Yea, but if you stumbled on those jeans wouldn't you check the pockets for buried treasure?

Hmm. You're on to something. Cliff probably lists turd collecting as a hobby.

Actually I'd say Guilliams quote is accurate. It's just a lot of regular folks out for a good time. No one claims Ellis has the greatest horses or purses, but it's a comfortable place to hang out with friends and meet people.

Probably because the bad attitudes stay away.

Yeah daily attendance was down 22%. That's always good for business and proof that the place is comfortable.

Ron Geary has made significant improvements to the backside and adding the tent for the claiming crown and leaving it up was a good idea. But until something is done about addressing the clubhouse I'll hold off on saying he's the best thing to happen to the track since Cowboy Jones. The ventilation in that place is horrible and it's unfair to non-smokers.

To you. But to local merchants it means something.

all-sources handle will be off about 12.5 percent

That's not good...

Ten extra days means more business for local merchants and almost 12 million more in total all source handle.

As for the lower all source handle percentage, that includes two half cards lost to weather. Ellis also took a big hit with the loss of Youbet and TVG participation. Competing head to head with Churchill for a week didn't help either. I'm sure the bridge project kept some folks away along with a terrible heat wave in the area.

Besides, money wasn't really the topic.
