Anyone know of this horse or can they

look up a racing record for:

http://www.pedigreequery.com/captain+lindsay

I have a friend who is looking at buying this horse. Is there anyway to find out the history of the horse? Meaning is there a way to find out if he has been hurt before?

Echo Farm 09-01-2007 10:23 AM

I would assume that a 5 year old gelding good enough to have won $137,573 being offered for sale for $2,200 would have had some injuries, however it appears that he's not in bad condition, considering he's being ridden and doing small jumps.

Coincidentally he is just down the road from me. (35 miles)

Photos, if you haven't seen them.

edit, I found him on another site, for $2000 if you haven't seen it, this one has videos

Try getting the lifetime PP and lifetime workouts from DRF, to see if there are big gaps in there. No pre-purchase vet exam?

Echo Farm 09-01-2007 11:32 AM

google provided a little info, but nothing extremely revealing. According to Ped Query and other sources he had 3 wins at 3. Google is an erratic tool, but it appears that he didn't race after his scratch 3/1/06.
A $5 DRF investment for PPS would probably be a good investment.

If you are new to Pedigree Query, remember that it is for the most part accurate as far as the Pedigree goes. The earnings and race record are quite frequently out of date, wrong, or incomplete. It is a good start for searching information, though.

Thanks

Why would someone buying a horse to jump or ride be interested in its racing record?

The person should be more interested in a vet check. They aren't going to race the horse, so what does it matter what its race record was.

Plus, if someone is buying a horse, they should know enough to be able to find out the info they need without having someone come on an internet forum asking for help.

Some of the worst people in the horse industry I've had the displeasure of dealing worth are buyers who don't know what they are doing. They want a stake winner of $8.7mil with absolutely no health issues for $87 so they can ride it around in the back yard. Pain in the a$$......

Umm.....CarFax comes to mind!! Just kidding,Buffy! Have a great holiday....

Buffymommy 09-01-2007 03:11 PM

I asked because I wanted to know. As I am a fan of racing, was interested. The 13 year old girl getting him was interested too. Her parents had him vet checked. I don't know the outcome of that vet check yet.

Sorry I asked if Phystech was so offended by me asking.

Thanks for the info Echo Farm. :)

Not offended, just being realistic. I should have known a 13 yr old girl was involved in this..... been down that road too many times. "Gee Mister, I know you want $1500 for your horse but will you take $87 - it's all I have from my allowance and I just LOVE your horsie. Oh look, his knee is swollen - I don't want him "

Pawtucket 09-01-2007 05:05 PM

DRF has him last racing on 04/23/06. (That's as much info as they'll share for free. :) )

Note to self "put Phystech on the Morty list".

To be honest, the 13 year old hasn't seen the horse live yet. Trainer found it, looked at it, rode it, parents looked at it and they are buying it. 13 year old was just interested in knowing his background.

Hi Buffy,
I understand wanting to know. I bought a mare right off the track last summer. Even though I understood that she was offered to me because she had never had much racing success(and didn't want to race anymore) I was still curious about her past life. I ended up getting a picture of her one win, plus I have some of her races on video. I also own a *huge* collection of racing photos, but the picture of my girl Canagua is the featured photo! She is so quiet and laid-back, unlike my other hot-head horses. She will soon be my "Guest Riding Horse"! People are always so amazed and impressed to see a picture and a video of her winning a race. Let's face it,,,,she wasn't fast enough to stay on the track but she is *much*, *much* faster than the average rider needs to experience.

Good luck with your ex-racer.
Suzanne

You need a drink.

Not all 13 year old kids are like that... I wasn't when I got my first horse.

The girl bought him. She adores him. She has dubbed him "Bubba" as a barn name. She doesn't like Captain Lindsay as a show name so she is thinking of one. Mom is an equine massage therapist and went over him with a fine tooth comb when he got there Sunday. Maybe a LITTLE bowed tendon in a minor tendon in the past, but nothing to be concerned about. She has seen much worse. Vet didn't say anything about it, she felt it though. He vet checked clean too by the way.

Suzanne, how did you find the pic of your horse's win? I would love to find one for this girl. She is sad about losing her other horse and I would love to give her a winning picture the day Freddy(her old horse that she has sadly outgrown) leaves. She has him up for sale right now and a few people are looking at him.

the pp's was a suggestion for looking for gaps in the racing history to indicate possible injuries, not so much for a record...fun to know at any rate.

paisjpq 09-04-2007 01:08 PM

I'm late to the party here, but Danzig is right about the pp's being able to tell you basic info. My horse made 2 starts at 2, in the second he DNF...then he disappeared for 2 years before he started again....so we knew he had gone wrong somewhere...when I vetted him we ultrasounded his front legs and found an old suspensory tear...along with problems in virtually every other joint in his legs....but for a thousand bucks plus 500 for the radiographs and ultrasound who cares?
