Presque Isle Betting Format

They have a lack of betting opportunities with only one pick three and $2.00 tris and supers. Also I expected more entries for these purses.

There are only about 220-to-260 or so horses on the grounds as of this morning....the #1 complaint from all of the horseman is that there are no facilities for their help to stay....they have to keep them in hotels or look for short term apartments.

Fabulous Strike is on the grounds and will work tomorrow. How he works over this surface will determine if he runs in the stake later on in the meet - or he goes to the Vosburgh at Belmont - a race that Discreet Cat has not yet been ruled out of running in yet.

They seem to want to try rating tactics with Fabulous Strike.

I saw Scott Lake today, he has 24 stalls, second to only Asmussen's 30. Darrin Flemming is deputizing for Steve Asmussen.

Maybe something to do with the lack of entries and living arrangements for the track help is that they're only running an abbreivated 25-day meet this year. Next year they're having a 5 month meet. I'm not playing devil's advocate for these guys at all, but maybe they'll work out those various kinks for next year's meet.

I noticed that Canterbury is only carrying their week night feeds, and not their signal on Saturday (including opening day tomorrow). With a lot of tracks closing on Labor Day, I was a little disapponited that they're not picking up the Sat feed.

Pretty funny they didn't think of where they were going to put the grooms and help for the horses. No tack rooms?

They are guarding the backside like it's Fort Knox - loaded with nothing but Gold bars.

Or, as one trainer put it, "like Hitler's prison camp."

In order for the press to get on the backside, they must be accompanied by a Presque Isle Downs offical at all times. It's pretty amusing that they're standing over your shoulder and watching your every move....

It's not amusing when you have to wait for an offical to be ready to take you back there.

I have no idea what they have to gain by making it as miserable as possible for the press to do their job. However, I'm sure that is their plan.

How busy could the officials be? For that matter, how much 'press' can there be there covering this?

It's ridiculous.

One can only imagine.

I read people are plowing 4 million a day through the slots there. Is there actually a Presque Isle?

Cannon Shell 08-31-2007 07:42 PM

I walked right in via the path to the paddock. Wasn't much to see. I guess they forgot to put a guard there.
I would guess that Mountaineer will put as much thought and effort into the racing as they do at home. Which would be not much. The sole reason there is racing there is it is required to get the slot $ and they do a poor job of hiding it. It is laughable that the Williams woman defends Mountaineer's backside in the recent Bloodhorse Chat. It is easily the worst in the country outside of Suffolk.
