NoBiz = No win Saturday

While I do not like this horse so I could be bias, I think this horse doesn't win, and possibly doesn't hit the board in this race at Delaware. First off, Delaware has some huge 'jump-ups' and I have little to no trust in the figs produced from there. 2ndly, I would have to think that Corny would be showing up if this horse was going to win, that is 30k out of his pocket. THIRTY GRAND. Now I understand that he is going for the Toga jockey title but is it worth 30k? Scav thinks not. This horse is a pain in the ass to handle and while Javy can get it done. I forsee a very fast pace in this race, horse is already a nut case, in an unfamiliar scene, probably will be too keen early. I will be playing Strike a Deal hard and boxing with Soldier's Dancer, Summer Doldrums, and Buddy's Humor.

Buddy's Humor ran well at Monmouth, but he got an absolutely perfect setup vis-a-vis the pace. When he kicked it in, though, he was full of run.

Why is it 30k out of his pocket? He could easily win 30k at Saratoga on Saturday.

ELA 08-28-2007 09:41 PM

There's two G1's on Saturday -- The Forego for $250k and The Woodward for $500k. CV has calls in each. Now look at the rest of the card.

Regardless, strategically speaking, the Spa riding title is worth more than $30k, but it is not worth more than a client like Tagg. So, although I didn't talk to Richie DePass about it, I would think that very far in advance -- the moment Delaware became even a longshot of a remote possibility -- Richie was already talking to Barclay. Richie is one of the best and without question is one of the sharpest in the game.

Winning the Spa title can mean more to CV than it does to other jocks. At this point in his career, specifically this year, this is a big notch on his belt is just what he needs and wants people to see. I think this was 100% Richie's call and if he made it, I would say it's the right one. He wouldn't make this call without every base covered and without understanding every single option, alternative, possibility, etc.

I think Richie stays at the Spa, keeps Tagg as a client and gets to ride the horse back if he wants to. And, he takes his best shot at the title.

OTOH -- maybe Richie didn't want to ride this horse at Delaware and set it up this way. These are the nuances that you never know and never find out. It's like playing Texas Hold'em, LOL.

Who is he riding in the Forego and Woodward? He will have to win both to get that 30k..

I don't know much about riding titles and how much they are valued but I know that 30k is 30k, and it is 2 minutes, instead of having to win 2-3 races. Maybe he is really live on Saturday and that is why.

NTamm1215 08-28-2007 10:18 PM

Chatain could be a reason why Corny is hanging around the Spa. With that horse's talent I can't imagine he wants to risk losing that mount.

Riding titles could be worthless or priceless. Here -- it's not about the $30k. Even if you count him as giving up the $30k because the Delaware race is a walkover, if Richie played his cards right, the Spa riding title is worth more than $30k in the big picture (and he keeps the ride).

In this setting, at this stage in his career, it's not a $30k decision. It's a strategic decision.

But, as I said, who knows what, how, when, etc. the entire thing happened. I could easily ask, but you know what that means.

No chance, the horse is a cripple.

Maybe I just think Corny is already established enough, probably because I have been following him since he was an apprentice in Florida (when he tore apart that Gulfstream meet a couple years ago). I guess I would want to say I was the leading rider at Saratoga aso. It isn't like it is leading rider at Arington :)

Scav, I would suggest waiting for the scratches before deciding on plays!! Based on previous history, there will be MANY!

He was never an apprentice in the US. He didn't ride here until he was 27 or 28. He did, however, have a great meet at Gulf in '05.

Whatever the **** he did in was working. It wasn't '05 I was talking about either, it was '03 I think, maybe '02. I was still in college when I was betting him.

I was with Barclay yesterday morning....while he was not thrilled that the rider let Show Biz go so quick in that last work...he was otherwise quite happy with how the horse is coming into the race.
