Why is Javier Castellano riding Nobiz Like Shobiz instead of Cornelio Velaquez? To me it looks like there is only four horses of a chance of winning this turf race. It would also be nice if this field of horses stays intact and not decimated by scratches |

Scratches are quite irritating, and one of my big issues with the game. Horsemen never seem to want to face a big field anymore. Everything has to be perfect or too many of them scratch - frustrating from a bettor and fan perspective.
The BC is largely successful not only because of its championship status, but that every field is large, well-contested and deep. |
I was just thinking about a comment Kasept made several months back about how the Preakness was only a million dollar race. If the Kent Breeders Cup, a G3 event, could muster up a $500k purse, why can't Maryland Racing do the same? Oh, that's right...they don't have slot money to augment state purses.

The PA Derby has the same purse as the Travers, Belmont, and Preakness. That is all you need to know about slots. NY and MD don't have them for their thoroughbreds and it shows.

Starvinsky all the way, baby!
