No doubt. Nice duel with First Defence down the stretch. I loved it.

Hated that Spinmaster got off to a bad start. Would have liked to see him be the third horse in that battle.

I've never been a fan of this horse, but I gladly give him a huge load of respect for this performance. Real guts, heart and determination. I love that.

i have loved this horse since last year, and i will admit i thought he could be beat todaY, actually i thought it was likely that he would be beat, i went 5 deep in the pick 4.. trying to beat him........he ran huge, but they finished slow, i dont know what to take from this race, where does he go from here ? they said the bcc at 1 1/4 and that would be very hard for this horse.

i thought it was a great performance, his best in some time. he's had too many races lately where he threw in the towel late, but this time he showed true determination, and the heart that some may have thought was lacking. congrats to hard spun.

oh, and rick porter bound to be happy. a few extra millions from darley for getting the gr 1.

MaTH716 08-25-2007 04:41 PM

I thought First Defence ran very well. What was it his 4th career start. Unfortunatley, that is the first time he has been eye to eye with another horse in the stretch. I saw him at Monmouth and he looked amazing, on and off the track. With a little more seasoning I think he could be a special one.

Hail2Reason 08-25-2007 05:08 PM

Nice effort by Hard Spun but he didn't beat much. Grasshopper may have jumped him too as far as 3yr olds that stand a shot in the classic.

Hopefully HS will go to the BCS not the Classic.

Hail2Reason 08-25-2007 05:10 PM

He belongs in the Breeders Cup Dirt Mile on Friday, not the Classic on Saturday. Not a chance of winning at 10f but he could win the 8f contest.

pgardn 08-25-2007 05:21 PM

I dont care who he beat...
21.9 44.2 fractions for a 7f race. Those are extremely tough fractions on a very hot humid day. And he very close to the pace, led got headed and then won the blasted race. Tough animal. Very tough.

hockey2315 08-25-2007 05:24 PM

Hail2reason-

I strongly disagree with you. . . Hard Spun beat some very talented sprinters today. . .

I do agree, however, that he has no chance in the BCC. . . The mile would be a good spot for him depending on who goes. The only problem is that it lacks the prestige and purse money of the Classic.

Rileyoriley 08-25-2007 05:25 PM

I thought he was through when First Defence came to him. Showed alot of heart.

He beat some nice ones and he showed he is a gutsy horse but there weren't too many in there that I consider grade 1 material.

I think Hard Spun probably beat more than Street Sense today except for maybe Grasshopper. . .

Hail2Reason 08-25-2007 06:38 PM

I just realized why Hard Spun isn't going to go to the dirt mile. Discreet Cat. Probably couldn't win the sprint either. Classic might be his best bet. He could hold on for something like 2nd or 3rd with the right trip at Monmouth.

sumitas 08-25-2007 06:43 PM

A very talented horse that reached deep to win today. Wherever he goes I wish him well.

Yes -- loose speed is just so horrible at Monmouth -- and one of the leading BC Classic contenders in Street Sense really did overwhelm the mighty Grasshoper (a son of Dixie Union with very limited route foundation going 10 furlongs for the first time)

How did Hystericalady look at Monmouth today by the way?

Danzig 08-25-2007 07:35 PM

i think hard spun has a solid chance in the bcc. go for the glory, hell with that dirt mile crap.

herkhorse 08-25-2007 08:16 PM

How can you not love that effort? Come on, you all thought he was a beat horse!;)
