Went down so well :D Here's the Second one....

A campaign for the re-introduction of on-course bookmakers in the US. An off-course Pari-Mutuel monopoly with bookmakers at the track and those who want to bet with them required to pay a much larger entrance fee (to offset the loss of handle).

I like the idea. I want to apply for a license to become one. I could make enough during the Saratoga meet just hanging out at the BBQ to take the rest of the year off.

The pitches at British racetracks were auctioned off a few years back with some individuals paying up to $200,000 for the right to have the 1st pitch pick every day they attend tracks like Ascot and Cheltenham.

Thousands of people who now wager at home and have no interest in attending the track would come to the track in order to shop around to get the best prices.

Racing would be nothing without oncourse bookmakers on track over here. It gives people different places to bet, and as was said before it gives the punters a chance to shop for the best prices.

I think it's a brilliant idea.

You wouldn't say that Scav, if you had a winner that say opened at 30/1 and was bet down to 6/1 at the off. Don't forget, I was betting with bookmakers, either at the track or in our versions of OTB's, for 20 years before moving to the States. There's nothing worse than watching a price shrink before your eyes If you like a horse at a price, you get that price, regardless of the price when it's Official. I have made some nice profits that way.

sure, all you have to do is convince these big corporate interests to let that most un american of concepts, competition, thrive in their own backyard.

Most bookies dont cap performance , they just play the numbers. Some times tey doctor the numbers to intice betters one way or another.
