NO Molengao!!

i read a few weeks ago that he had some sort of problem and didnt seem likely to make this race. suddenly, he was supposed to make it. this doesnt seem to surprising that he isnt going to run.

there was talk for awhile about lewis michael being entered. that would have been interesting.

G1 quality closer on polytrack and he won't be the favorite??

Tiago FTW!!!:)

Corey Nakatani, scheduled to handle Corazondelcampeon in the race, was unseated in the paddock prior to the race and was replaced. After an initial exam in the track first aid station, Nakatani, regular rider of Lava Man, the early favorite in the $1 million Pacific Classic on Sunday, was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in La Jolla for x-rays of a possibly dislocated left shoulder. Nakatani also complained of sore thumbs.

when they x-rayed him, did they find his brain, or did they only xray the upper part of his body?

If Nakatani didn't have an MRI they never truly considered a separated shoulder as a viable possibility. The stretching or partial tear of the ligaments or joint capsule that can occur with a separated shoulder can only be picked up by MRI. A plan film or Xray is not the most sensitive test for this disorder.

As far as the "sore thumbs" go, my friend IC has it on high authority that Corey may have been trying to save a few bucks, given his performance at the current meet, when he was doing his own flexible sigmoidoscopy and was "unseated" from his next mount.

ouch man!

good one!

actually though, my high authority informed me that he was actually trying to stimulate his brain directly via the sigmoidoscopy.

Bruce Headley has not won a race on Cushion or Poly track and Surf Cat will be a short price coming back from a long lay off ? Doesn't seem right to me.

Lava Man, Tiago, Time Squared and Hello Sunday make a nice super box

Thunder Gulch 08-17-2007 10:02 PM

That Pac Classic is no easy one. Hard to like Lava at a short price despite his record as he moves to this surface, but it takes a lot to bet against him when he towers over the field. The thinking is closers favor this surface, but there have been enough wire jobs this week to dismiss that somewhat.

Tiago doesn't get me excited going against the older horses either.

Give me some Awesome Gem if he's near the 15-1. There look like several bombs could be a factor if Lava falters.

Indian Charlie 08-18-2007 12:19 AM

by the way, can anyone figure out why baffert decided to go with the forego for midnight lute instead of the o'brien?

i mean, yeah, the forego looks better on the resume, but i think he had about a 90% chance of winning the o'brien and not much of a chance in the forego at all.

his last workout was a blistering 1:22 from the gate over the dmr poly.
the fastest 7f race of the dmr meet? 123.2 by salute the sarge!

King Glorious 08-18-2007 06:52 AM

The Forego is a grade one at Saratoga. The O'Brien isn't. The Forego is run on a real track. The O'Brien isn't. Remember, that workout was during the morning, when the track is closer to being a real track. In the afternoons, it's junk. I wouldn't run a speed horse on it either. No way in hell would I be running Bordonaro here. He couldn't even last the distance of the last race and now he's supposed to last further on that stuff? Good luck. Midnight Lute will run them off their feet in the Forego.

For the reasons King stated below, Baffert said; "if the race were at 7 am I'd keep him here"

Chatain is also going to the Forego.

Danzig 08-18-2007 08:22 AM

supposedly they were hoping to get discreet cat to the forego...now they're hoping to run him at some point during the belmont fall meet.
