Overnights for Jim Dandy - Street Sense in

From the NYRA website

No Cherlokee as Hooves posted earlier this week, but not a terrible field.

As for the rest of the card..ugh. Maiden city.

It will be interesting to see how Tiz Wonderful comes back.

boswd 07-27-2007 01:05 PM

I actually like this field. With CP West and Tiz Wonderful, It won't be a Street Sense walk over, though I don't see them beating him.

XIIPointStables 07-27-2007 01:12 PM

Tiz Wonderful was my first "Derby Horse" of the year after his debut Toga last year and wins in KY. Great to see him back.

Picks up Johnny V.

I think SS is the first Derby winner to run at the Spa since 1995. As a 3-y.o I mean.

Anyone surprised he's passing The Haskell? I'm guessing if Hard Spun goes he may be tough to run down at that track.

The leader after the opening 1/4 mile in The Haskell has been 1st or 2nd the last 6 years.

2006 - 2nd
2005 - 2nd
2004 - 1st
2003 - 1st
2002 - 1st
2001 - 2nd

My guess is after Hard Spun's last 2 attempts at rating they are just going to let him run. IMO, Street Sense would've had no chance there.

I think I remember the trainer/ownership group talk about "painting the Canoe up at Saratoga..."

Maybe they feel like this the the more natural prep for the Travers and the canoe painting.

While that's true, isn't the Holy Grail the Classic? Wouldn't you like to get a race over that track?

Tiz Wonderful is going to make Curlin and Street Sense wish they were someplace else later on this season. I am going to say that Tiz Wonderful will be the winner of the Travers.

I'll give anyone even money on Cowtown finishing within 13 lengths of Street Sense.

My guess is he really really wants The Travers, he even spoke of "painting the canoe" after the Derby. The Jim Dandy being 4 weeks away and running over the same track is the better way to get to the Travers. I also think with his first race back since the Preakness I don't think he wanted a full all out battle with Curlin and Hard Spun and will save that for The Travers if they show up. Though Tiz Wonderful is going to be a handful

Nafger is an old school trainer who still holds The Travers in very high esteem.
He wants this race.

These two (Nafzger and Tafel) are reliving their UNSHADED youth (even though it was only 7 years ago) through STREET SENSE.

Yeah he and a handful of the older trainers still regard The Travers as the 4th leg of the Triple Crown.

I still like to believe that but the Breeders Cup has done alot of damage to that race this past decade.

Wow..you aren't kidding. Other than the Dandy, the rest of the card looks more like a mid-August Monday or Wednesday.

I know huh? Brutal. All those stakes races today maybe had an impact.
