What kind of bettor are you?

How much money do you wager?

Would you consider yourself?
Small, medium, large, extra large or XXL?

For me, with a red headed wife, kid in college, mother-in-law to support, I'm SMALL.

How about you?

Spyder

Hickory Hill Hoff 07-21-2007 02:01 PM

I guess a would be considered..."xtra-small" LOL!

Depends on the horses.....:)

I normally pick four or five races to possibly play if I am in the mood and find that many races where I think I see something of interest.

Sometimes go for one race only, and might toss $$ on a 2nd or 3rd race if I see something interesting developing I didn't know about until I looked at the form real time with the minutes ticking down.

Rare race I bet less than $30. Rare race I bet more than $80.

Usually W, P, Ex, Q and Tri with no definitive combo. Sometimes Win only. Sometimes Tri only.

In fact, I believe that'll be my plan for the OTB in about an hour or so....

Thanks for getting me in the mood!

What kind of better are you?
Not very good most of the time. Small time. The largest bet I have made on a horse was $500 and I am still choking on the dust. I owned the horse and he ran 3rd.

IrishofNDMan 07-21-2007 03:48 PM

Most of my bets are $10 exacta or tri's straight, but alot of times I will play a $5 or $10 tri like this: 1 with 2,3 with 2,3. Sometimes I have success. I also do $10 or $20 win wagers, and every once and awhile I will play a $1 pick 3 or 4.

Spendabuck85 07-21-2007 05:08 PM

$20 win bets, $5 DD's, no exotics

eajinabi 07-21-2007 07:33 PM

weekend player

2 to 3 bets for the weekend

$80 - $100

mainly p3s and p4s

ultracapper 07-21-2007 07:38 PM

dime supers on cheap maiden claimers in socal. best chance for major payoffs in the game, if you can pick them, which is no easy chore.

Holland Hacker 07-21-2007 07:46 PM

Lately my wife has been limiting my daily handle to $100, not that she actually monitors it. I have been trying to keep my wagers around $100. I usually play a pick 4 for +/- 50 ala Byk plus a few other wagers. For example today I played the late pick 4 at Belmont a pick 3, a few exactas and the Virginia Derby at Colonial Downs. I wagered $101 and cahsed for $110.

and Yea I made a profit of $7.00. I can almost retire!!

Well, followed my strategy to a "T" today and didn't collect a winner.

Though I found good horses that did well, I didn't couple or play the best way.

(maybe not "the best way," but a way to just collect the ticket!)

I had both of Mike Smith's first rides, but just missed my exotics. I really liked his 11-1 filly in the 4th, but the #3 horse roughed her up out of the gate and she had to take back and rally late for 3rd. Unfortunately, I had her nicely in the top two with Baffert's $1,000,000 first time on the track filly who did win the race.

After I lost my 5th wager of the day, I did a "Cartman (South Park)" and said "scroow you guys, I'm going home!"

I then went wine tasting to adjust the attitude to a more positive state....

....the grill is being fired up now.

I still LOVE horse racing, win or lose. Really.

westcoastinvader 07-21-2007 08:07 PM

And I sure as heck didn't have the #12 in the 5th who was beaten well at the Pleasanton Fair a few weeks back, finishing a distant 4th in a 5 horse $12,500 Allowance, but rallied to win the race "where the turf meets the surf" today to pay $124.00 to win.

Try to stick to the ole 10% of my bankroll per race, but if I'm up I go for the juggular.....so basically I'm a mess, but man do I have fun along the way.:)

This is SO TRUE! I won more in contests today than I did at the OTB :o And I get more excited when I do well in a contest

How can you not love this game? I took $60 to the OTB today, did a variety of bets and came home with a $40 profit... I'll probably lose that tomorrow and that's OK, I just love to play this game :D

On a side note, I may be returning to the Bay Area, I've got an interview for a job back there and I'm completely jazzed about the possibility! I can go home for the last year of Bay Meadows - YES!!!! :D

Suffolk Shippers 07-21-2007 08:54 PM

I like to play the $50-$100 pick 4's, $150-$250 pick 6's, tri boxes and keys and prices to WIN.

Mostly the pick 4's and tris though...I only pay the 6 when motivated and into a bigger pool.

I need to go for the "juggular" to get back to my May form!

Derby Cat
, I'm hoping that Bay Meadows will find a way to survive. I used to be "political," but lost my mojo for the multitude of causes along the way.

I really believe Bay Meadows should survive and prosper.

It's a great track.
