How can you be black in 07, rich, and still angry?

He just accussed the Yankees of being racist. When they asked him about how Jeter was treated he said "It aint the same, hes half black half white" Last time I checked if you had any black in you, you are considered black. Sounds like Sheffield is the racist.

Yeah they are racist. They have a japanese LF, have had a PR CF for 10 years, a Dominican RF and 3RD baseman, a half black SS, a Dominican 2bman, a PR catcher and A Panamania Closer. Real bunch of crackers on that team. If anything they are racist against whites being they dont have a regular that is white outside of 1b and pitchers.

The Bid 07-14-2007 01:27 PM

I was just shocked to hear Sheffield say something so ignorant.

The other big racecard player in the game is Bonds. Hes never been man enough to own up to his mistakes, hes always blamed the mediaor race, its a joke

timmgirvan 07-14-2007 03:32 PM

What's with the Torre bashing? I guess Sheff hasn't moved on from NY! Immature and no class on this one:(

The Bid 07-14-2007 03:41 PM

He said Torre didnt treat him like a man, and was racist. Called him out on a few occasions he didnt call Latin or white players out.

timmgirvan 07-14-2007 03:53 PM

Prima donna......as long as the props are going to him....

The Bid 07-14-2007 04:03 PM

He has a bad case of "Angry black man syndrome" Its usually cured by making 10 million a year, and driving a bentley.

It can also be cured by 40+ years of equal treatment and great opportunity

horseofcourse 07-14-2007 10:52 PM

I can't comment on this because I have no idea what is said in the Yankee clubhouse and never have. But I will comment on it anyway. Perhaps what he says goes on...but as far as who plays where...generally Torre plays the best players...including Sheffield when he was there. Torre's livlihood in the game depends on winning, so thus as Cannon says, the best players playing create the pretty diverse ethnic backgrounds starting for the team. Looking at who's playing, it is extremely difficult for Sheffield to state this and for us on the outside to believe it as fact. Generally the "calling" out of players by coaches is done to those who can "handle" it. So in all honesty, you could say the "calling" out of minorities is actually a compliment. At this level you're more psychologist than coach...can you really "coach" Rivera to throw a cutter or improve Jeter's approach at the plate??

If you can play, you'll play and get paid well in pro sports regardless of what you look like. I think that has pretty much been proven. Will racism ever end?? Of course not. Sad but true.

But Sheffield's got an explanation for that- according to him, Latins are easier to control . . .

He's really a pitiful human being. . .

3kings 07-15-2007 09:53 AM

Sheffield is no longer in the national media spotlight because he plays in Detroit. He is just like Terell Owens, when he isn't getting enough attention he makes a statment so ignorant that it can't be ignored. Now everyone is talking about him again. He is an uneducated self indulgent j*ck *ss and no one should even care about his opinion. But until we stop putting a microphone in his face, he will continue to spew this nonsense.

Cannon Shell 07-15-2007 10:57 AM

August 16-19. Tigers at Yankees. Who brushes him off?

Clemens 4/5
Mussina 2/1
Pettitte 5/2
Wang 5/1
Farnsworth 8/5
Proctor 3/1
Hughes 4/1
Mariano 6/1

Don't forget that he mentored Willie Randolph to be a manager in MLB. Sheffield has a history of saying stupid things, part of the reason the Yanks got rid of him in the first place. It is a shame, this guy actually had a lot of talent at one time.

3kings 07-15-2007 11:12 AM

Whoever starts the first game of the series, first at bat. I hope its someone who throws hard.

The Bid 07-15-2007 11:15 AM

Youve set that line very well Cannon. I will take 2-1 on the moose

I just hope ESPN doesn't overhype the thing to the point where everybody will be scared to get a long suspension for doing it. Of course if the Yanks are still 10 back they may not care

Storm Cadet 07-15-2007 11:38 AM

The line should be 1-5 on Clemens because all the other Yankee pitchers are pussies...and they have been for years! They WILL NOT take the inside corner away from anybody anymore. That's another reason they blow again this year!

They should show these pitchers Roger vs Piazza from years ago! Have some balls...take no prisoners...win some damn games  Damn, if your gonna lose to crap teams like Tampa Bay...at least show some emotion and pride and go down fighting.

Hey, the way Clemens is pitching (and how much the Yanks are paying him), they may instruct him to brush back Sheffield. That way Clemens gets suspended and the Yanks save a few bucks (suspended without pay).

Nice!!! Wish I had thought of that

hockey2315 07-15-2007 05:47 PM

I think it's highly unlikely that Moose throws at Sheff. . . Proctor or Farnsworth probably. . .
