Calder Pick 5 on Summit Day
Guaranteed pool of $500,000. Actual wagering was only $136,000. A $2 "parlay" would have paid $4,200. 5 correct paid $84,444! Based on the $136,000 actual pool, it "should" have paid $22,900.
Doesn't happen often but they truly were giving it away that day. |
It didn't help that Hurricane Andrew took another swing towards Miami right after race 1 that day. It absoultely monsoon'd for at least a half hour. The turf was already yielding because of the rain leading up to it. So that killed all the turf sprints.

The rare occasion where a "guaranteed pool" promise wasn't fruitless.
|
I'm sure Pete is right, the rain had to kill the pools.
Don't think we'll see that large of a guarantee next year. |
Rain, off turf and $2 minimum are the reasons I read. But they did handle about $10 mil on the card (I think handle was about $12 mil last year). I was out of town, so I missed the card.

Very Interesting. Has that ever happened anywhere before?
It was a pretty dismal day. |
I have vowed to never bet Summit of Speed day again. I can't remember ever making money at Crc on that day.
