Got to place a lot of the blame for that horse's unsoundness on the female side as well.
Half Ours' second dam was the lightly-raced Cal-bred, Key Phrase, a grade 1 winner that made just 6 career starts (including 5 wins). She has passed on both her talent and unsoundness in several foals including highly-touted, yet unaccomplished Yankee Gentleman (a favorite in the BC Sprint a few years back), Key Deputy (a stakes calibur, but sparingly raced Live Oak Plantation runner for Bill Mott), and Key Maker (a Wygod throwaway given to Clifford Sise, who got him to break his maiden with a triple digit Beyer, only to see him to fall into the 10-16K claiming ranks in SoCal).
In addition, Key Phrase herself is a half-sister to the very fragile, overhyped Tribal Rule, who made just 4 starts for Julio Canani and the Wygods (earning huge speed figures) before becoming, unfortunately, a rather popular new sire in California.
