Attendance for the 4th of July

With all the talk of "the live game is dead", I was thinking today at Belmont how busy it seemed. Since the 4th is a day where people can actually ATTEND the races, instead of having work and other obligations from 1-5 PM, here's the reported figures for today at major tracks:

Belmont 8,415 (seemed a lot more than that, all the front parking lots were full by the 4th race when I got there)
Churchill 12,398
Ellis (opening day) 7,088
Hollywood [not available]
Lone Star 20,000
Monmouth 15,791

Pretty impressive.

How did Finger Lakes do with Funny?

No attendance numbers there anymore- with the slots now it's free admission. Anybody from the Rochester area attend and have a ballpark figure?

By the way, one of my good friends is a weatherman for that station.

Phil, it's great to see FL get that many people there to watch the race. They showed a picture of the grandstand it was packed.

Calder: 6325

I watched Belmont on simulcast from CRC. They had a pan shot of the outside clubhouse right before the Tom Fool, there was about 6 people there. The grandstand looked like about 20.. Sad. Maybe it was a hot day and the rest were inside, but still sad.

I heard the announcer say 11,400 before the race. Well more than alot of tracks across the country. Great to see Funny Cide win yesterday. Sent chills up my spine... again.

Your name always looks to me as though it should have an exclamation mark after it.

It started raining right at that point, which is probably what happened. I ran out, took some pictures of the post parade, and ran back in. It was pretty busy there...

that sounds absolutely correct to me. From looking around, I'd have said 20k for the races and about 45k for the fireworks. I was counted in both of them... and came out ahead, which is never a bad thing.

Canterbury had almost 11,000 there for the 4th. That's big by their standards. They usually get that attendance figure for Debry Day (their opening day as well), the 4th, and Claiming Crown Day. They do their fireworks display on the 3rd instead of the 4th, but I'm unsure of the attendance for that.

CBY will miss not having the Claiming Crown this year.

ROFLMFAO!

Ellis had a nice crowd. 7,000 at that joint is wall to wall.
