Lasix

What exactly is Lasix? what does it do? What are advantages/disadvantages? I know this may be a real dumb question, but I am still very much a beginner with the ponies and I really do not know anything about Lasix.

It's given to prevent bleeding in the lungs (blood thinner).
Some take to it, though at other times, it makes a horses lethargic (first time, from my own experience).
Advantage...first time lasix, might be a good bet if bled last.
Disadvantage...horse might not take to it.
Just my two pennies.

Lasix (furosemide) is a powerful diuretic that causes fluids in the horse's body tissues to be released in the urine. This has the effect of lowering the horse's blood pressure which helps prevent bleeding.
