HBO - Barbaro

What you guys think?

I thought it was really well done and that Gretchen Jackson is really well spoken.

Even got my mom to watch it and she is as anti-horse racing as they come

I liked everything except the music. Was that Zamfir?

I thought the NBC special on Derby Night was much better.

Lava 06-06-2007 10:02 PM

Scav 06-06-2007 10:03 PM

Don't waste time with On Demand. It's on HBO proper again at various times. Friday at 4:30, Saturday 10am, Sunday 5:30pm and those are just the first 3 listings...there are several over the next 2 weeks at least per TVGuide.com/listings if you want to check. There might be more after that but they only do 2 weeks.

I thought it was extremely well done.....I thought the one NBC did was much more emotional, (maybe because it was on first) but there were a lot of nice angles on this one that NBC didn't have...I thought the race footage was much better on HBO and I also thought the bits with the six guys from Pimlico was really good.....Except for the ending, you can't go wrong with any story about this horse and connections. I'll say one thing, Gretchen Jackson is tough as nails..

The one thing I wish was included was a bit more about his legacy, the barbaro fund, advances in vetrinary medicine and all. I liked it though.

What I could see though my tears, was a wonderful telling of the horse's story. I love the Jacksons. And I lost it when Roy was talking about "we said our goodbyes.."

All and all I loved it. I think I used about five or six tissues to get through the show.

Thank you Jacksons for sharing your horse with the world.

On Derby Day this year at Churchill Downs, they played NBC's broadcast of Barabro's Derby win on the big screens. The whole crowd started cheering as Barabro opened up on the field. It was probably my favorite moment from the entire week.

I just watched it on free HBO On Demand.
HBO did a nice job. Good interviews with the "Barbaro Rescue Crew," Nack, Beyer, the Jacksons etc.
As for the 2006 Preakness....I hadn't watched that race in over a year. I never want to watch it again.

paisjpq 06-07-2007 10:22 AM

I thought it was pretty good....though the replay of Ruffian's breakdown was just unnecessary sensationalism IMO.

disappearingdan_akaplaya 06-07-2007 02:47 PM

i agree scav i thought it was very well done also! i remember after the preakness last year i didnt watch a single race for a couple of weeks till we had 1 of our own in. i love horseracing as much as any1 can but i love the animals even more, watching last night brought tears 2 my eyes! whata truly awesome animal who gave us his all on and off the track
