the one offer Sackatoga turned down

this is pretty lame....I assume even Jack knowlton must know that clones can't be registered....not that I think they should have said yes under any circumstances...but his reason is pretty stupid.

I do not think his reasoning is stupid by any means. Would you want to bet on a race that has multiple clones of one or two horses? Isn't the thought of that just idiotic? At that point why breed new horses? Or should we start a Champions Divison and just race clones of champion race horses against other champion race horses. Just does not make any sense.

I do not think he was refering to everyone wanting their own Funny Cide clone, but more of an idea of why cloning should not be allowed.

his reason is stupid because the jockey club doesn't allow clones to be registered....therefore no clone would be racing period.

and if you read what I said...I agree that he should have said no...I don't support cloning, however I think hs stated rational is lame, since it gives an impossible situation as an example. The JC isn't ready to budge on AI, no way are they going to change their stance on clones.

I was not saying you were in favore of cloning, I merely said I think his point was valid.

Also, I think he was giving an example of why it is cloning is bad for the sport, and a reason why the JC does not and would not allow it.

I wasn't trying to argue the point, just saying I do not think his example was "stupid."

i told my kids i was going to clone myself, so that at least i wouldn't have to work more than forty hours a week--the clone could work some of my days...or do my housework.

they thought it was a great idea. til i said that i didn't want to go to jail for killing 'me' if i caught 'me' in bed with my husband!!

clones to go ahead of Funny Cide

John Henry

I think it would be kind of Funny if there were a whole field on Funny Cides.

I mean assuming they were all healthy replicas...who would you bet on....you can't trust any of them to win lol.

A full field of Perfect Drift clones would be far more entertaining. The battle for the place and show spots would be intense.

Well....perhaps a full field of PD's after age four maybe.

Here's an old form of his from his 4yo season....

he won consecutive Graded Stakes on dirt in his next two starts after this form.

He actually had a lifetime record of 18-9-3-1 after his 4yo season.....it wasn't until that point when he started to become the Perfect Drift that we all know and love.

Yes I know. In fact, here is what I posted about him just a few days ago:

"Why is this horse so controversial? I just don't get it.
At ages 3 and 4 he was a very good horse. He won six graded stakes in those two years.
At age 5 and 6 he began to decline considerably. Although he still managed some good performances, (particularly the '05 BCC) and was consistently in the money he (not surprisingly) wasn't the same horse he was at ages 3 and 4. That is perfectly natural.
At age 7 and now at age 8 he has regressed further. He isn't the consistent G1/G2-caliber horse he once was.
Would ANYBODY disagree with any of the things I said there? If not, why are there so many arguments about this horse? I am not trying to be a smart-ass.....I really don't get it."

Actually I am really sorry for bringing him up in this thread. I have always liked the horse, but the mere mention of his name in any thread seems to
turn the entire discussion into a debate about this horse's merits. I am starting to get really bored with it.
