American Idol Finale: A Horseplayer's Perspective

A fine night. I didn't take notes for every individual song because I flat out didn't feel like it.

My fleeting enjoyment of Blake has really reached its bottom. I enjoyed "You Give Love A Bad Name" better this time around, and I had loved it the first time around. I thought his second song was not very good, and sort of more run of the mill Blake. His finale was just awful. With that being the lead single for whoever wins, I was hoping he'd rise to the challenge even though it's not his style of song. I think he mostly butchered the lead single and the fact that he's not a better singer than Jordin notwithstanding, that should be reason enough for him to lose this one.

Jordin came out and rocked "Fighter," the exact kind of song she would be performing in the future on her record. She nailed that one and then of course nailed "With A Broken Wing" the second time around. I think that the big difference tonight was when they sang the lead single. She did everything one could hope for with a song like that, and I think that her version of this single would do wonders for jumpstarting her recording career. A fine performance from my early season favorite.

I think that unless Blake's fans really mobilize in the next few hours, that there is no logical reason Jordin should lose this. She's superior in every way to him outside of the actual showmanship aspect, but we've seen with Carrie Underwood in the past that that sort of stage presence just comes with experience on the road. (Carrie, robot then, sexy country vixen now)

I would feel completely vindicated after last season if Jordin wins this. Last season saw a no-talent jokester win this competition, and I would love nothing more than if the single person I fell in love with the first time I saw her ran off with the competition. My faith in Idol may be renewed.

All kidding aside, B... neither one of these singers is really THAT great. I'm just not impressed. To be certain, Jordin has more natural talent, but WOW. I hope Jordin wins, because if Blake wins, AI can kiss my one hour of viewing a season goodbye. :D

She's incredible for a 17 year old.

I guess I was spoiled in high school... there were singers in my choral ensemble that were just amazing. Anywho, with that said, I definitely like her chances better and think she's got what it takes to win.

Singing in a choir and performing on national television are two completely different things.

Like I said, I was spoiled. Joey Fatone and Luis Fonsi were both in my ensemble. My high school had a magnet program for talented singers and actors/actresses.

Jordin is phenomenal. I would give you a pass for that if you had written it during week four, but she has grown so much and demonstrated an incredible talent.

I think much of it comes from what you like listening to. You make like more country voices, so Carrie Underwood might fit you better. I like big pop voices (for this style of music) and Jordin fits the bill with a huge, yet nuanced, powerhouse voice.

I like it all, baby cakes. You should know that. :D

Holy crap. You just invoked a member of N*SYNC to justify how good singers you went to high school with were?

Surely you could do better, or have just not brought it up at all. I'm not really sure that *vocally* a Joey Fatone card trumps a Jordin Sparks card...actually, I'm sure it doesn't.

Brian, with God as my witness, Joey Fatone has a phenomenal voice. It sucks that he's going to be forever remembered as an N'Sync 'backup boy' as he is really amazing.

So does Jordin Sparks.

Opinions are like a$$holes... everyone has got one! She's above average, but definitely NOT the best voice I've heard on AI. I voted for her though, don't worry. :p Anything to keep that Blake guy from winning... my heavens. I'm sure he's a nice kid and all, but holy moly.

Blake would be a convincing Terry Schiavo. Hallmark should consider him for the role.

Go Jordin!!! :) Go Jordin!!!! :)

Blake is alright, but Jordin is much better.

I'm an old man here and while I've read some pretty vile and sick things on here, I must say.......that was one of the best lines ever!! My compliments to your writers!!
