Street Sense- Next Race?

This maybe a really stupid question, but is there any likelihood that Street Sense would skip the Belmont and run back in the Steven Foster? One more week's rest, no Invasor to run against and at Churchill Downs...

Not that I wouldn't like to see him run in the Belmont, but the older horses are not that strong (other than Invasor). Just a thought.

I'd say there is a reasonable chance that he would skip the Belmont, but I really doubt that he would do so in order to run in the Stephen Foster.

Maybe the Haskell at Monmouth, since BC Classic will be there. Would be great to see a rematch in the Travers.

impact values/

Street Sense's probable defection will have serious impact on the value of the Belmont.

I am still holding out hope that although the pool size will take a massive hit, the race will be a profitable one.

I think the idea is a really good one. In addition to the likely weak group of older horses and it being at Churchill, there is also the weight break that he would get being a 3yo. On the scale, he'd get a ton of weight from the older horses. I don't know what the scale allowance is at 9f but at 8f it's 11 lbs and at 10f it's 13 lbs. So, for example, if Street Sense were to be assigned 123 lbs for the race, he'd probably run with about 111? What is Borel's weight?

I think the Belmont resembles last years race where there is no derby winner or preakness winner yet its a great betting race.

I just dont get running him in the race, i mean it probably is easy money but as a stallion prospect it does little for him.

Horse racing is in trouble if decisions to race eliminate the sporting aspect and take only into consideration stud value. I know, I know, I know... it's been like that for years. But just once I want a star to come along with an owner who could care less about stud value, and be involved for the sport.

Yeah and I want peace on earth. It's nice to dream.

I don't see the top three running in the Belmont.

Regardless if they do or don't, it should be an exciting late summer and fall campaign by all three. Can't wait.

I certainly agree but running in the Belmont for either Curlin or Street Sense makes little sense to me, going 12f now seems an undue risk for either. Curlin apparently was extremely tired after the Preakness (he certainly deserved to be) and Carl has expressed zero interest in the Belmont, Hard Spun could go...speed is a huge asset in that race historically. What I want to see is both return for a 4yo campaign...gosh, that would be unique in this day and age!

Curlin's owners are some money grubbers. They'll run him in the Belmont I'll bet my left nut on that one. He'll also run in the Super Derby then onto the Breeders Cup. I see the Belmont then they'll trun him out for 3 months get a early fall/late summer race then onto the Cup.

You're 100% right. I heard that Nafzger said,"what's the point of going on to the Belmont?". But that might have been his initial reaction after watching his horse run a winning race only to get nosed out. Hopefully the top 3 finishers of the Derby come back to run in the Belmont. Hard Spun's trainer Larry Jones seems like he's going to enter his colt. http://tcm.bloodhorse.com/viewstory.asp?id=39033
Steve Asmussen was holding his cards close to this vest. Hopefully the syndicate that purchased him will want to add to Curlin's value by running and winning the Belmont Stakes. Street Sense's owner is 83 years old. He's not going to have many more chances to have an opportunity to win 2/3 of the Triple Crown. Street Sense should be able to handle running in the Belmont. He is a "fresh" horse after all having only run in 4 races since November.

carl said at first whats the point about the belmont, but now says he will meet with tafel in a few days to talk about it.
curlin was tired, but with good reason.

i'd say there's still a fairly good chance that the top three in the derby and preakness will shoot it out again in new york.

but i'd imagine jones is hoping that street sense and curlin stay home.
