Street Magician

Hopefully he's the only son of Street Cry who comes skating up the rail to a Pimlico stakes victory today---as I needed him to run down Southwestern Heat for a straight exacta.

That's the third straight time Southwestern Heat has shown monsterous early speed in a row....and, interestingly enough, the 3rd straight start he's made for her dams old trainer.

I believe its the son of his dams trainer, John Salzman.

I needed the heat to hold on for a pk three, i'm a little steamed at the moment.

Well he got a little ping pong action between SWH and the rail but he got it done for you. I was kind of happy SWH got 2nd here. I adore his mama so when he places in a stakes, it's good times. Is Hirsch Jacobs still graded?

The Indomitable DrugS 05-19-2007 01:12 PM

Yes, it's a Grade 3.

That exacta sure paid well. Sorry for the redboard by the way.

Merlinsky 05-19-2007 03:33 PM

Awesome, so Xtra Heat's officially a graded stakes placed producer.

Are there no depths to which you won't sink these days?

It was obviously the only logical way to play that race. I'm sure you'd agree.

I completely disagree. There was no way that you could forecast SW Heat clearing the field as easily as he did and the rest of the pinhead jocks taking back on speed horses leaving SWH out on his own, then Street Magician putting together a tremendous rally to run him down late (although SWH nearly sent SM over the rail, you're extremely lucky he stayed upright because SWH would have been placed last.)

I'm right with you on this, Phil. Even Street Magician has been on or close to the lead in all his other starts... DID ANYONE SEE the stretch run from HOBBITONTHEROCKS? For some ungodly reason, Dominguez NEARLY FELL OFF!! then straightened out to lose by 3 lengths. I realize this was happening while SW Heat was nearly putting Street Magician over the rail, but please, I need to know I'm not the only one who saw this:eek:

that was GREAT run by SM yesterday. had the guts to stick his nose in, bounced off the rail, never broke stride and kept on coming!

I bet Hobbitontherocks. Didn't see Dominguez nearly fall off, but honestly I don't think he was good enough yesterday regardless.

I bet hobitontherocks and he had a miserable trip, half of it self induced....

that being said the pace in that race was huge so the leader set real fractions, unfortunately they crawled home, not exactly what you want for top class sprinters, these three year olds get drowned when they match olders or better horses.

golfer 05-20-2007 12:40 PM

I just watched it again, a bit more objectively this time. Dominguez had him in a foolishly tight spot at the back of the pack most of the race. When they turned for home, he wasn't far behind Street Magician, but he swerved left, then compensated by swerving far right, that's when Dominguez almost fell off. Had he kept a straight path, his close, coupled with Street Magician's trouble on the rail, may have made for a close finish. But all this is certainly meaningless now. Next time Hobbit runs, it may be valuable.
