Who does horse racing have?

Baseball has Peter Gammons, Harold Reynolds and John Kruk, all excellent ambassadors to the sport if you will. All posess mountains of knowledge.

Now horse racing...Guys like Hank Goldberg, Mike Watchmaker and Andy Beyer are an embarrasment to the sport. Its become so bad that ESPN throws guys who know nothing about the sport like Kenny Mayne in there to try and make it worthwhile watching.

Why cant horse racing attract some star talent like the guys who do baseball?

Well Gander since you gave out 3 examples and 2 of them were former ball players I would guess horse racing might be wise to have Gary Stevens and Jerry Bailey serve as front men for all big races and see where that goes.

Well horse racing has Randy Moss and Bailey and Stevens. But for the most part horse racing is a 4 day event in the nations eyes. It is Derby, Preakness, Belmont and Breeders Cup day. Horse racing isnt like baseball, basketball or nfl where the majority of the public cares about each sport all year long. I would love to see ESPN team-up with TVG. Heck, Lyons, Carruthers, Rudolph, Simon and throw Olivares (spelling) and you have yourself a great crew. They could get people interested in the sport. Heck throw in Greg Wolf as well. TVG has a great crew. Prob better than anyone.

Why is Beyer an embarrassment to the sport? He has done far more to promote horse racing, IMO, than what Gammons, Reynolds and Kruk do for MLB.

Beyer and Watchmaker look like drunken gambling addicts when on TV. They are smart men, but man they sure are ugly.

They could always get Muttonchops -- UUGGHHH. Battaglia and that other guy--cant remember his name--arent too bad. I tell you that Al Michaels knows horse racing--much better than Costas. They could always get Dave Johnson as well.

You can't compare the two sports. HR is on TV like 10x a year. Baseball every single day for months.

Who the hell cares what they look like? I want intelligent analysis, not some idiot in an expensive suit who can't handicap. If I wanted that, I'd turn on TVG.

The average horse fan wouldnt be able to follow Beyer or Watchmaker. They talk above their average horse fans' knowledge. Plus appearance is everything. Carruthers is a far better handicapper than Beyer or Watchmaker.
