Preakness

How many of the Derby starters will go to Baltimore? Lets start with Tufflesburg, he dances every dance.

todko 05-06-2007 10:08 AM

It might be a match race between SS and Hard Spun. Without Pletcher's circus could be a very short field.

Danzig 05-06-2007 10:10 AM

assuming they come out well:

street sense
hard spun
curlin
imawildncrazyguy
teuf (sigh)

then king of the roxy is supposed to be there for team TAP.
etude (winner of the tesio).
flying first class.

so there's eight. who else? what about the horse who won the withers? is he going preakness, or peter pan/belmont (sightseeing is supposed to be going that route)?

paisjpq 05-06-2007 10:15 AM

don't forget the ones who are pointing to Baltimore without the derby...sightseeing, king of the roxy, flying first class (whose speed will cause problems for hard spun if he doesn't want to rate)

paisjpq 05-06-2007 10:15 AM

oops...you beat me deb.;)

Here's a quote from Pletcher in today's BRIS.net column;

"Right now, I'd have to say that none of these five would go to the Preakness. We've been training King of the Roxy (Littleexpectations) for that race and he's our horse for it."

—Pletcher on whether his Derby horses will try the Preakness next

Looks like only King of the Roxy will be heading there

Danzig 05-06-2007 10:22 AM

bingo!

oh, and i forgot chelokee (poor chelokee, i'm sure he'd be hurt he he knew).

so if those two go, that's ten right?

in a way tho, i'd hate to see matz play spoiler....but it's racing, certainly not personal. and may the best horse win.

Talk about strange... if Matz won the Preakness after the way he lost it last year, it would be very weird.

Danzig 05-06-2007 10:39 AM

yeah, it would. but i don't know that chelokee can beat these two.

paisjpq 05-06-2007 10:39 AM

wasn't there some talk at one point of Street Magician going?

They're tired horses and Chelokee is fresh... it could happen. I want to see who else is entered as well... last year, Hemingway's Key was my longshot. I'm looking for a similar horse this year.

last year, bernardini was the live longshot. I still cant believe he was 13-1. I was touting him all week then preakness comes and I have to sell BBQ to a hundred thousand drunks and dont get time to bet.

I wanted to cry after the race for not having time to bet Bernardini. I friggin loved him in that race (even if Barbaro was healthy) especially after talking to Byk that morning.

Danzig 05-06-2007 10:45 AM

street sense shouldn't be tired, yesterday is his fourth race dating from last winter.
hard spun might be a bit more tired than street sense, but he seems to be in top form. he ran lights out yesterday after running lights out on monday, but yesterday was his first race in five weeks. he shouldn't be tired either.

besides, fresh imo is overrated--look at CQ yesterday.

I was a doubter (concerned about not ever having gone two turns.) When I said Hemingway's Key was my longshot... I meant my longshot to hit the board. I didn't think he could win the race. I really thought that Saint had a shot. Oh well...

You coming up north again this year for the Preakness?

tiznowthegreat 05-06-2007 11:25 AM

Preakness Field

I know it's early but still ...

Confirmed

Street Sense
Hard Spun
Chelokee
King of the Roxy
Xchanger
Slew's Tizzy
CP West
Starbase or Flying First Class

Possible

Teuflesberg
Curlin
Sedgefield

Wouldn't exactly be the toughest rendition of the Preakness in recent years. Who do you all think could challenge Street Sense?

randallscott35 05-06-2007 11:26 AM

I'm surprised Todd is putting King of the Roxy in here. He is soo good sprinting, I don't get it. He fought his guts out to be second at SA....I just wish they'd keep him sprinting.
