bad luck so far for Great Hunter and Any Given Saturday. Street Sense got lucky and so did hard Spun.

hockey2315 05-02-2007 11:01 AM

Well 3 of my top horses are going last. . . this sucks. . .

whodey17 05-02-2007 11:04 AM

Well Curlin draws 16. So he is going to get 1-2-3 or 19-20. Not good for him at all.

hockey2315 05-02-2007 11:05 AM

I'm glad Curlin got a bad draw from a betting standpoint. . . I won't be as worried about tossing him now. . .

I would think the 3 hole wouldn't be that bad for him

Do you think that Asmussen will sacrifice Zanjero's best spot to benefit Curlin?

was just going to say the same thing, maybe not ideal but certainly not a big issue. If he loses post position won't be the reason.

Slewbopper 05-02-2007 11:11 AM

I saw a slightly different list posted. Had Curlin picking 18th instead of 16th. Looks like the 19 hole for him with Great Hunter and Dominican vying for 1 and 20

No, but I'm gambling that Pletcher is going to use two of his horses to do two things...

1) Set a fast pace

2) Shadow Street Sense and not let him have an easy trip or a rails run

whodey17 05-02-2007 11:12 AM

The horse (Curlin) is so frail (in my opinon) that he would get crushed if he is down on the inside. No way can that horse survive all that physicial abuse he will get. I think the outside is the only option for him.

ArlJim78 05-02-2007 11:14 AM

With only a couple exceptions, if I take my derby ranking list and invert it, it comes pretty close to the post position draw list.

My picks are screwed.

I think you are really exagerrating things. What post position is safe from bumping in the derby?

Same here, Jim. . . I feel like all my preparation just got thrown out the window. . .

Well none, but the inside is much worse than the outside (in my opinion). I would be shocked if they took and inside post (unless that is their only option).

Rudeboyelvis 05-02-2007 11:21 AM

Hard Spun has been my pick - this draw confirms it. I would think that He and SS will be the top two favorites in the morning. You've got to think that either way, by drawing 18th, Curlin is screwed. If he can get it done, my hats off to him and his connections. I don't believe I'll be using him in anything but 3rd / 4th in a few of my super tickets

jpops757 05-02-2007 11:22 AM

With Tufflesburg getting a early draw along with Hard Spun, I feel they they can affect others as far as wanting inside or outside of them. Probaby the 2 horses alomg with Stormello that will dictate the pace, I still think Curlin has the tactical speed and the ability to turn it on and off , to get where he wants before the first turn. Three wide at the most. Gate will not be SS problem IMO. Borell will wait in the gate if necessary to get inside for the early going, If he can pass groups of horses he will be okey but if they are strung out too mutch and will need to pass to many individually it could be too much for him to overcome.

You obviously haven't seen Curlin in person...far from "frail."
