3rd off the lay-off in the Derby. . .
 

I know a lot of handicappers, myself included, consider "third off the lay-off" to be a powerful angle. So, why can't this work for the horses who only have two preps before the derby?

I prefer first timers off a last time.

The Derby is 1 1/4 miles, it is a brutal trip and it is something that a horse hasnt tried before.
