Fox cancels Drive!

Well, that was some kind of quick even for Fox...the two episode pilot followed by two weeks of the show and splat! Well, I thought it was good...now it's good....bye!

Will it be on for its schedule finale? I think its this coming Monday or the next.

Rose can always come back to Two and a Half Men to play the psycho-ex.

Another thing:

Ratings are down all over the place. I think the networks need to keep looking whats happening there.

A la putting a show on a month's abscence. I missed a couple of Boston Legal episodes due to this insanity.

From what I've read, the show is over...there are two unaired episodes that may air "sometime in the future" but next Monday the slot will be filled with House reruns. I agree...shows simply stop for a month or more at a time...terrible for fans to follow.

I started this year doing business with 6 shows. The Knights of Prosperity,Kidnapped,6 degrees,The Black Donnelys,3 LBS and 30 Rock.Only 1 will still be going. They are very quick to yank shows.

timmgirvan 04-25-2007 07:25 PM

This seems to be a industry-wide problem....what it takes for a show to even get on the tube....and then to yank it prematurely! Tough to be a loyal viewer,eh?

I didn't like Drive and was annoyed that there was yet another night time soap opera being aired. The only thing worse than that could be another so-called reality tv show.

Buffymommy 04-25-2007 07:45 PM

guess I don't have to watch the four hours I have of it on tape now huh?

Fox is stupid.

I never saw....

This particular show, so i couldn't comment on it's quality. However, it's just one more in a long line of fine shows that never found an audience. Some of course were yanked quickly, and should have been given a better chance to establish themselves. I don't know where this show was on the schedule, or what kind of competition went up against it. But one factor, (besides a great premise, and quality writing), that often is a deciding factor is a great lead in show. For example, one show my wife and I have been enjoying in it's first season is "Shark". James Woods is doing some of the finest work on tv this year, as a sharp lawyer. Besides the great acting, and writing on this show, it also happens to follow an established mega hit show "CSI". Which gave it a built in audience that was already tuned in to that channel, and discovered "Shark". Now, it's a top 15 rated show every week, with a rating high of 8 i believe. Last week CSI was a repeat, but Shark ran a new episode instead of repeating itself, don't know if it was an experiment to see how many fans they could draw without a great lead in, or what. However, the show still rated as the 11th most watched show last week, so it worked this time at least.
Bottom line on this is, it's about the commercial time, if a show isn't pulling in viewers, then it's hard to sale ads on that timeslot. It's that almighty advertising dollar bill that they care about. So the beat goes on, and on, and on, and i don't see that changing any time soon folks.

You are right, it's all about the dollar. Fox is probably the quickest of the networks to ax a show...poor Tim Minear, he's recognized as one of the best talents in the field yet he's had one show after another cancelled by Fox: Wonderfalls, The Inside, and now Drive. Angel at least lasted 5 years on the WB (although no less than the network president would subsequently admit that cancelling it was one of their biggest mistakes). Wedding Bells was another show I really liked this year...it lasted about as many episodes as Drive...but since Drive premiered on a Sunday with 2 episodes followed the next evening by #3 and the following Monday with a 4th, it was on the air two weeks!

Does Fox Have Any Shows Left

I look at the TV guide for the week, that comes with the newspaper today, and I have to wonder if Fox actually has any shows left.

There's the usual Sunday lineup.
Monday it shows Drive, but the TV guide there is printed before most announcements.

24
House
Bones
American Joke
That 'Til Death I guess
Can You beat a 5th Grader

What else is there?
