Jazil to finally try turf!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last year's Belmont S. (G1) winner JAZIL (Seeking the Gold) will try turf for the first time in Friday's $200,000 Elkhorn S. (G3), the closing-day feature at Keeneland. The grassy 1 1/2-mile affair has attracted an overflow field of 13, including one also-eligible.

Conditioned by Kiaran McLaughlin, Jazil first burst into prominence with his explosive runner-up effort in last year's Wood Memorial S. (G1). After rallying from last to dead-heat for fourth in the Kentucky Derby (G1), the bay overcame a troubled start to capture the Belmont by 1 1/4 lengths. Jazil was sidelined for the rest of his three-year-old campaign, then returned in January to finish second in an allowance/optional claiming event at Aqueduct. In a similar contest at Gulfstream Park the following month, he was runner-up to the impressive Corinthian (Pulpit).

Sweet Lord, and he's the ML favorite too.

Money burner central on Friday.

I always thought he'd be good at 12F on turf but I that race looks tough. . .

Every year, there are some overrated horses that luck up and catch lightning in a bottle once and then can't ever do anything else........and people will say "I can't wait till they run him on turf." It's worth noting that whether it's on grass or on dirt.........**** will still stink. Whenever Jazil finishes this race, maybe they can scope him and "find" something wrong with him. This is getting more and more embarrassing by the race. Each time this pig steps on the track, he's further disgracing the TC.

Just another one hit wonder. Did not lift a hoof on the turf. What do you do with him now? Match race against Funny thing?

If I were you I would be sticking to post-race analysis as well.

Oh I think Cobalt Blue should get first crack.

He should need a win desperately by then.

Regarding JAZIL.. Does anyone recall that the horse is running off an injury that sidelined him for an extensive period? Or that it was the same injury that ended Smarty Jones' career? An injury that if left untreated can be fatal to a horse? Or that Shadwell could have simply retired him and sent him to the shed with his desireable pedigree?

All we hear is that 'the big outfits take the 3 year oilds to the farm too early', and when one sticks around, a really likeable one at that, all you hear is snide and denegrating comments when the horse struggles. Pathetic.

Thank you Steve...this is why you are the greatest guy in horseracing. :)

The only thing that stinks is your attitude about horses and racing, as well as your insight. How does Jazil disgrace the TC by stepping on the track? Can you explain that? It was a foregone conclusion before the Belmont last year that there would be no "great" ones coming from that group. Should they have just cancelled the race in advance to avoid the embarrassment?

Who is embarrassed by this? you? please explain what is so embarrassing.

Why must all horses fit your greatness criteria or else be considered "stinking" "pigs"?

So what if Jazil won a classic, but is not on par with others who have done so. You act like they should just retire the horse out of disgrace.

He disgraces it by being a pig. The best races should be won by the best horses. Everyday, non-descript horses shouldn't be winning them. Horses that are eligible for nw1x races shouldn't be winning them. If they are ordinary races and ordinary horses are going to be winning them, let's stop having rules regarding who can run in them. Let's just let anyone enter and the luck of the draw determines who gets in. Then maybe we can have a couple of $15k claimers in there while Street Sense and Circular Quay don't make the draw.

U ask me who is embarrassed by this. I am. U are too. All racing fans should be.

Your calling him a pig does nothing but embarrass yourself.

What rules did Jazil break by running in the Belmont?
Who was better than Jazil in the Belmont? Was he not the best horse in the field going 12 furlongs? So who should have won that race that would have made it less embarrassing for you?

Don't speak for me, as I am not embarrassed one bit by Jazil. For the life of me I don't know why you would be embarrassed. In fact I am heartened by the fact he is racing still and trying new things like the turf. He is a 4 YO that has started a grand total of 11 times now, yet you act as if he is some over the hill has been, or never was.

The best races are won by the best horses on that day. Who would you like to win the best races? Are there any horses that would please you?

If the entire field is made up of what you call ordinary horses, what are we supposed to do? I'll ask you again, should the Belmont have been canceled last year because they were all ordinary horses? What races have as a condition that in order to be eligible the horse must be extraordinary?

You know this was a simple thread stating that Jazil was trying the turf for the first time, but it appears that you have taken it to mean that "Jazil is one of the greats of the last ten years". You couldn't wait to jump in and denigrate the horse.

See that is the key with Mr. Glorious...when he isn't saving all of us a lot of time in handicapping the Derby (you DO know the winning exacta right?) he is waiting in the wings to put down some horse. It takes a big man to sit behind a keyboard and call a horse a pig.

As you can imagine, his love is spread on the other forum as well...
