Asmussen and Curlin

I dont know how ppl feel about this, or if they even care at all, but i know i will be routing against Curlin on derby day and the main reasson will be, because i dont think his trainer Steve Asmussen deserves to win the kentucky derby.....

This is a guy who just recently completed 6 month suspension for cheating, he did not even bother to appael the suspension so he obviously used the illegal drug. I dont know if it bothers ppl, but it bothers me, there are so many other trainers that i'd like to see win a derby before this guy does. This is also not the only time his name comes up as someone who uses illegal stuff on the horses, i dont know the exact facts but i have heard his name on more then one occasion for cheating by using illegal drugs on the horses.

The righteous has spoken.

I can't speak for the rest of the board but I know I will sleep better tonight.

SniperSB23 04-15-2007 11:29 PM

The part that drives me nuts is that the owner is a big advocate for eliminating drugs in the game yet still chooses to use someone who just finished a six month suspension as his trainer. Talk about hypocritical.

Grits 04-15-2007 11:41 PM

As Morte' so eloquently says . . .

Holy Mother Of God

thud!

And what pray tell leads you to believe that Steve Asmussen is the only trainer in this business that DOES or WOULD EVER use an illegal drug?

Please, let those that have not, come forward to the altar right now. Sainthood is imminate.

funny how you don't make any sort of reference to also not rooting for Todd Pletcher (who also was recently suspended around the same time as Assmussen) and his string of hopefulls to win the derby.

You need to state whether your biased against Asmussen himself or ALL trainers who get suspended, otherwise this post is just a rant about how you don't like 1 individual

I don't see anywhere where he says Steve Asmussen is the only trainer in this business that does or would ever use an illegal drug.

No he did not. Though he didn't bother as well to note the suspensions of Pletcher and Dutrow who both were on vacations recently. (Besides, they have the "better" veterinarian possibly.)

You are going to be routing against Curlin? I don't think you stand much of a chance. If you were sprinting against him....maybe....but routing I think he will probably defeat you rather easily.
As for your thoughts on the trainer, I agree with you. I don't particularly care for him either. I typically do not cheer for his horses OR Pletcher's horses. That is why I may root against Curlin on Derby day, but challenging him to a race over a route of ground because I don't like his trainer seems a bit extreme.

criticizing one's spelling just to make fun of them is really in rather poor taste don't you think?

No! I think anyone that makes a spelling mistake should be instantly banned from the board!!!!! :D
I didn't mean for it to be making fun of him exactly...although I certainly see how it could be interpreted that way. I actually just saw it as an opportunity for a bit of (what I considered) victimless humor. Everybody makes mistakes in spelling, and typically I wouldn't call attention to it, but I did in this case because it seemed that the misspelling provided an alternative meaning that could be somewhat humorous. I do hope he wasn't offended by it. I meant it in a lighthearted way.
And, as I said, I agree with the main point of his post. I disagree with a lot of what this guy says, but that doesn't mean that he is wrong all the time, and I think it is best to consider each post on its own merit rather than just judging the poster (although I may sometimes be guilty of that).
If you feel the post was in poor taste however....I do apologize.

So are you saying it's ok to break the rules if others are doing it but not getting caught?

PG finally come up with a sensible post and yet people still knock him. I think he is right and a lot of people I know feel the same way. The morality level of many of the 'leaders' of the sport is dangerously low and statements like you just made are often used as justification for misdeeds.

Is there some kind of rule about posts vs. rants?

Chuck, I said the same thing yesterday without much disagreement.

The fact that he's said so many outlandish things in the past works against him in a situation like this.
And yes... I really will feel ill if Asmussen wins the Derby after serving most of 2006 on suspension.

I don't really like him much either. But that isn't because he's busted for cheating on a regular basis.

Don't get your shorts in a bunch

It all doesn't matter because Curlin isn't going to win.
