This is nuts

With 4 minutes to post in the ARK Derby....Going Ballistic is 42/1...and that 7K yearling maiden 1st time starter is 41/1.

blackthroatedwind 04-14-2007 06:03 PM

That's almost as ridiculous as Fee Fi Fo Fum being 3-1.

The Indomitable DrugS 04-14-2007 06:03 PM

Or Boca Grande being 5/2

It's nuts that anyone has bet on the firster at all. His odds should be 'infinity to 1', that is 0 divided by the pool.

My guess is the absolute best thing this horse has going for it is that it's a firster. If it had three races it might be 250-1.

LOL i thought so to, this horse could have a future, did not have the best of starts either...

Deadly Dealer crushed FFC at least twice. It might have cost him a placing. Curlin sure looked good. He won like a future book favorite should but geez, he'll be running the Derby in his 4th start.

TitanSooner 04-14-2007 06:14 PM

he could just be that much better that the " lack of seasoning " won't matter

Curlin's has raced against weaker but he's won like a good horse should. He's had 3 races this year so he meets that criteria. His figs match up with the best of his class. But is it too much too soon? A lot of rules have been broken in the past few years. We've had a ny bred win who was a gelding. Last years winner raced off a 5 week layoff and if the grass race he won on New Years Day was one day prior it would have ruined the must have 3 races rule. The no races at 2 is the last sacred cow.

It should be an interesting Derby and I look forward to handicapping it in 2 3/4 weeks.

If anyone was curious but too lazy to look for themselves...

The debuting maiden finished last, beaten 55 lengths.

Going Ballistic got beat a nose for 4th, and one length for 2nd.

The horses racing 2-3-1 after a 1/4 mile ran 1-2-3. The maiden was racing 4th after a 1/4 mile......

I heard someone mention the same connections have an unraced maiden nominated to the Ky Oaks....poor horsey.

SOREHOOF 04-14-2007 09:31 PM

I don't think Curlin had to work too hard for that one.

SOREHOOF 04-14-2007 09:32 PM

Might be time for the breeding shed!
