princess rooney has one running tomorrow

sunday at keeneland, the great racemare has a chester house 3yo debuting (i think it's debuting anyways!)

it's kind of odd, she had no foals after 1997 until this one, in 2004.

anyways, i just thought i'd mention that so that anyone who was a fan, or even remembers her, could keep an eye out for him.

race 6, house of words.

Merlinsky 04-14-2007 05:25 PM

Oh cool. That's very Winning Colors-esque isn't it? With the foal gap. Maybe she's a hard foal keeper even if she manages to get pregnant. Any more after this one?

Linny 04-14-2007 06:41 PM

Has she been in the US all along? If she was exported, her foals would only make the US Book if they ever came here.

I know anybody can edit Pedigree Query but I doubt there'd be that big of a gap in progeny listings for a mare like this (a nobody maybe but she's Princess Rooney for pete's sake) and it doesn't mention in her notes or her progeny report that she ever had foals elsewhere.

Just yesterday I had to remove a Smarty Jones foal that never existed (and apparently got special dispensation to violate the number of letters allowed by the JC  ). I swear folks just like playing hypomating with that thing. His other named foals in the database had legit names in the registry fortunately. They do realize a lot of stud farms offer hypos to their stallions on their site right? Ugh. It's always fun when they have a 2009 baby listed or one with a hip number--idiots. I'll go pester one of the researchers to smoke over her stats. Maybe we'll find out if she's been barren, aborted, or what have you.

It is really stupid of them not to offer the hypothetical mating feature for free. All it does it encourage people to create fake horses on there to be able to look at a hypothetical mating. If they just made it free to do or even had an option where you could look at the pedigree before submitting it then I bet it would reduce the number of errors significantly.

i got my info from the bris APR CD-ROM. It's a wonderful tool, though way too expensive if you ask me (500 or so i think). has every mare's produce going back about 50 years.

Here is the info for princess rooney. This is from the 2006 version, so no info for 2006 or 07, obviously.

i remember ole, her first foal, pretty well. i was there when he debuted and was very excited to see her first foal run!

i think henry moreno, of all people, had him.

he was very disappointing. he did sire a few useful horses in california at least.

They're trying to use one of the more popular features to generate money unfortunately. I remember the good ol' days when it used to be free. They do have a sort of way to look at the pedigree as far as they're concerned--you have to make sure the sire and dam have the parents you thought they had but you don't get to look at the 5 generation pedigree is the thing. The only talk seems to be on making it harder to add horses, not putting hypos back in.

House Of Words made his debut 3/22/07 at the Fairgrounds, 7½ F on the turf. $58.5K MSW.
He was in 3rd place for most of the race but weakened to 8th at the finish.

Ridden by Jamie Theriot at FG, John Velasquez today, 6 furlongs. Maybe he won't weaken.

Scav 04-15-2007 12:12 PM

The other interesting thing is how Springer got his hands on this one. He is just a local Illinois guy that does well, not Catalano well but is solid with his horses. Quite interesting
