Two Year Old Racing

I wish tracks would require 2 year olds to first run in a non-wagering race before they run a race in which the customer can wager. I would still like to see a purse for the race, just make it a non-wagering event. These races could be claiming or a msw. I also believe that 2 year old races should not be part of the pick 6 or the pick 4. OK, I have vented. Thanks for listening.

i love handicapping 2 yr old races, looking at pedigrees, and workouts and trainer stats.....i have to disagree with you on this one, i mean saratoga over the summer is all about the 2 yr olds racing, i have had some of my biggest scores on 2 yr old races.

Not a question of handicapping. It is a matter of getting the horse experience as well as getting the horse player some more information. I think it would be good for racing if we allowed these horses some "practice." Sorry to disagree but Saratoga isnt about 2 year old horses who have never raced before.

Totally agree, I rather bet these nice msw 2yo races, than those dreaded
mcl state bred races they run constantly to fill up the racecards throughout
the US.

One of the only things harness racing does better than thoroughbred racing.
Problem is no wagering = no money for the tracks...

I agree. Only reason tracks dont do this is because there is no money for them to make. i really think it would really help the horse player as well as the horse, owner and trainer.

I kind of enjoy betting on pedigree alone... it's about the only time I can do that and get away with it. LOL :D

I use to like when Fair Grounds made firsters run in training race
before they started in an actual race. These races you could
watch on replays and they were very informative. Caught some
nice plays buy watching these training races.

saratoga is not just about the 2 yr olds, but they are a large part of it, i love watching regally bred firsters run all summer, and i agree with the other poster, i'd rather watch that then these horrible claimers.

Oh I agree 100%. Imagine the power the horse player would have if he/she was able to watch a 2 year in a practice race before the horse was put into a wagering event. To me, handicapping 2 year old firsters are boring.. You look at the pedigree, the trainer and works. There is really no analysis done.

I've done just as well with horses that have never run
and it pays better

They make those races part of the pick 6 so there is a good chance of a carry over. Carry overs are good fo business

I agree that carryovers are good for business. I dont know if there is a direct correlation between 2 year old races and a carryover.

I think the Fairgrounds used to do this years ago, they would do them early in the morning right after training hours.....

I never handicap a 2 YO race unless it's in the middle of a pick sequence. . . Just watch the board. . .
